Actually, Google appears to have recently crippled the ability to use anything other than the default notification sound for SMS/MMS across all platforms. Even Verizon's Message+ recently stripped out the ability to define a unique tone. This ability has been something I've used for the nearly 8 years I've been on Android, and I'm mighty annoyed that it's going away. I WANT individual tones depending upon the source of the notification so I know the level of priority. Losing this is a major negative.
I'm using multiple different notifications for various things. Not sure why you can't do the same. Google has no plans to restrict this. It could possibly be limited by the app that you're using. And please don't blame Google for "crippling" anything when you're only having problems with one app (in this case, Verizon's Message+). @PowrDroid disagrees with you...
My first cell phone, which I got in 2002, had a better ringtone selection than my 2017 Google Pixel 2. I find exactly two tones, be it for notification or as a ringtone, remotely acceptable, but the rest is just, no.
Do people really put up with this, or is there a place somewhere to get ringtones that do not sound like they came with a cell phone toy intended for toddlers?
I'm sorry! Haha. If it makes you feel any better, I change up my tones way too often.
My boyfriend's ringtone has changed at least four or five times in the course of a year.![]()
Taylor Swift songs?
For a while I had Star Wars Darth Vader Imperial march as my ringtone. It always got some looks from people when it went off.
I was at the 2016 caucuses and my son texted me, his notification is a clip from the Mission Impossible TV show (section with very rapid beating on bongos, then Duh-duh-da-DAH!") and the whole room cracked up.
Which I did back then... but it dug its claws in so deep, I had to do a FDR to remove it completely. I love their platform, but I'll never use their app.
For me it's the old LG "Good Morning" tune.I wake up every weekday morning to the Minions "banana" song![]()
I downloaded Zedge and custom ringtones this allows me to put the same ringtone on my watch as my phone
Because you don't want to ring with two different songs
