Pixel 2 XL for a week now, lots of messaging errors, WTF - also changed carriers

Maybe that's it, since I have been traveling I have been in areas that have a strong signal and still experiencing lots of weird data issues. For example four times at the hotel over the last 90 min I have had 4-5 bars and data mysteriously stops. Emails get q'd to outbox, apps can't access the network etc

Yeah something funky is def. going on for you. Definitely a pain in the *** (PIA) for sure..

I really hope it's not tmob bandwidth issues because their pricing is a lot better than we were getting after 5 years with vzw

Try going back into APN and in the right upper corner hit reset to default then restart your phone maby the sim will reset it self .
Most likely this will remove your updated settings you installed

This feels more like a TMob issue especially since it's more common at home where signal issues are there for ALL carriers, but I still have weird issues even with 5 bars. Double texts, lengthy time to send media of any kind including photos. Did something change in the text message app on Pixel 2? Or is this indeed a carrier issue?

It's a known MMS issue with T-Mobile, not with your phone. Their forums are filled with people complaining about it. It's not the best solution but if you use Textra there's a specific setting to help counteract this issue that basically turns off your wifi when you send an MMS and then back on once it's sent. I still get some hangups now and then, but mostly it works well.

I don't get it. Why should anyone have to turn off wifi or go thru special menus jus to get text messages to work on android phones

It's a T-Mobile issue, not an Android issue

people wonder why many jus pick an iPhone... they just work.

No they just work the way Apple wants, they don't work the way I want....if I wanted a homescreen littered with icons and restricted functionality then yes, I'd absolutely pick up an iPhone.

How do they consistently get top tier network ratings and have issues like this? Only way around it is to change carriers again?

I've never even heard of this issue and I've had them for four years now.. This is weird. I feel for you

This was taken in ft Worth Texas yesterday. Notice 5 bars and I couldn't get connection
It eventually timed out.

Just left t mobile store and they told me the pixel was not designed for their network...yet they had numerous specials to bring pixel users over? WTF

Yet another reason I no longer use the big carriers, just too many headaches
Did they offer you are resolve to your problem?

Yeah I've activated three Pixels on T-Mobile .. I don't know what they are talking about. Good luck.
Interesting thing just happened. As we left the house i lost signal and had no bars. My wife with her original pixel had 3 bars. I then had a couple bars come back and she had four, then I lost signal again while she retained LTE. This happened numerous times on the way to town with me losing LTE and she kept it.

Just visited with tmob and we swapped SIM cards if that doesn't get it I will call google and start warranty process.

We just drove home with both pixel 2s and while my wife's maintained better signal than my XL she did lose signal a couple of times down to zero bars. Makes me think the Pixel 2 has some sort of issue switching between towers or bands perhaps?

Rankings are an average. Carriers are very area specific. Just because a carrier has high ranking doesn't mean it is guaranteed to work where you work and play. It just means you have a better chance.

I've been on all 4 carriers. I go with who works for me in terms of service and price. Don't stay with a carrier that doesn't work for you.. it isn't worth it.

Ignore store reps. Seriously. Majority know how to sell a phone .. that's their job. Beyond that they just spew BS. Such as this..

The phone works on all the major 4 carriers without a hiccup. The rep was clueless.
