Iphone 8 plus on the right and pixel xl 2 on the left. Brightness about 50% on both.

I'm sitting here reading this on my new pixel XL 2 we purchased today.
The short of it is I'm not sure about the screen, it does have a unusual hue even looking straight on.
The blueish off angle color shift is mildly annoying, in most cases I'm looking straight on, but sharing a pic or video it's hard to not see it.
I'll have to decide if the screen is annoying enough to return it, if so I'll have to find a new phone i gave my Pixel XL to the kids kid.
As the phone goes, this version is truly a upgrade over the original Pixel, the performance is fast no app lag, not that the original was a slouch.
Decisions, I have 30 days to decide and Google has thirty days to give us a potential software fix.

Um...

I think you have that backwards, that's the Pixel 2 XL on the left...

And, BTW, IMHO the Pixel 2 XL's screen looks better to me in that pic.

Thanks I fixed the post. Night shift isn't on the iphone--just true tone.

Received my 2 XL earlier today and it's already boxed up for a return.

The screen is just to lifeless, I can get used to the dull colors as I am sure Google will release some type of fix for other color profiles, but the blue hue on slight angles is really annoying. I don't think software can fix the blue hue issue, so now I am unsure what phone to use. I am currently using a Nexus 6 as I sold my OG XL in anticipation for the 2 XL, wow I did not think the screen issue was going to be this bad. "sigh"

OTH, the design of the phone looked great IMO, if it wasn't just for that screen...

I think it was more your characterization than your content I was replying to.

i.e. instead of "you dislike accurate colors, not that you dislike P-OLED" I would contend "you prefer a more colorful screen, not that you dislike P-OLED" is really the thing.

I still think I will have no problem with the screen, but we will see ..

Like anything, it takes a day to get used to. But it's actually much more detailed.

Dumb move. Google already announced they will be adding a syrup mode for cry babies that like 0 range and lots of sugary colors.

I haven't even received my phone yet (it's sitting at home waiting for me because I'm on vacation), but I already know I'm glad that even if there's this supposed minor issue with viewing it at odd angles I don't care because I don't hold my phone perpendicular to my face when using it.

I checked a couple of XL's in store and as much as I love the phone and want it soooo badly there is no way I'm dropping such a lot of money on something that is plainly not right. Just move the screen a touch in any direction and it's plunged into blue, really, really terrible. I've never seen a screen like it. Google's loss is Samsung's gain, I'm ordering an S8+ today.

I like the color actually, just a little cooler than I like but seems like the pixel 1 XL with sRGB turned on.

I was happy until I noticed the black crushing issue. I have a few backgrounds that we're great on my last couple AMOLED screens, very dark with lots of details. This screen does not do these backgrounds Justice.
