Pixel 2 XL Screen Discussion

They already said they will be adding the garbage profile everyone has come to love. Of course by then, you will be used to accurate colors and it will look terrible to you.

Which one is the accurate one, the Pixel 2 or 2 XL. Because they are clearly different next to each other.

Why do you need to rag on what people think looks good? You don't like punchy colors, cool. LOTS of people do. It's not wrong, it's a preference. I think drab , dull colors are garbage. Does that make me right or wrong? No, it's an opinion.

She's a pretty good reviewer imo and one of the few that actually does a deep dive on smartphone displays.

I think that the sRGB settings look great when watching movies or looking at pictures, but terrible when using your phone for other things.

The response was their engineering team is aware of the issue and is working on an update.

They also said that it was only effecting 2% of phones. so maybe that's why some notice and some don't, or it was the early batches???

I have never once seen her do a deep dive on smartphone displays. I've never once heard her mention the Delta e or talk about the measurements of the color accuracy at all. I honestly don't believe that she even owns the equipment to measure colors or brightness or really any of the metrics that we would measure display quality on. I do watch a lot of reviews. Does she have another Channel where she does measurement based reviews?

The 2XL is more accurate on the DCI P3 color gamut. We have not seen measurements to indicate which one is more accurate on srgb.

I don't doubt that. I still watch all her reviews, but there's just something I don't like and I can't figure it out.

Here's what makes me unsure of the proportion. I use this phone for over 2 months and didn't have any issues. No one else that I know that was testing the device had any issues. All of the reviewers that were on the hands on event did not report any issues. Then a few people have devices that they claim are bad and the media is running with it. Which is fine we see that all the time of course they're going to blow up The Sensational story. But we haven't actually seen any bad displays, unless that's changed today, I've been out of touch. And we also have a lot of other reviewers telling us that it's not anywhere near as bad as it's being said. And we also have some of the ones who said that they hated it admitting that they just hate the color profile because they are used to inaccurate displays. As an example artem turned srgb mode on on his old pixel and he hates that one just as much. So there's a lot of confusion about why exactly people think there's something wrong with it and there's a lot of confusion about how many of them actually have anything wrong with them or if anything is wrong with any of them. I've purchased two of these plus I've had my test device and I've seen several in stores. None of them have any issues other than the slightest blue tint at extreme angles. And that's the exact same slightest hint that we see on the S8 and Note 8 and the original pixel however those phones don't shift to Blue they are red and yellow respectively. So a very well could be that my perceptions just aren't as finely tuned to some other people's or it could be that a lot of people are blowing something up that doesn't really have a lot of teeth to it. And since I don't know which it actually is my recommendation is that each person actually look at it for themselves if they think it's going to be an issue.

My 6P had *massive* burn-ins. On the notification shade bar and the navigation icons. And it bled through on lighter backgrounds. Obviously not in 2 days, but well within a year. I should have returned the phone and got it fixed within the warranty, but that would have left me without a phone for a few weeks so I just put up with it. Really inexcusable for $500 and $1000 devices.

That makes sense. I was going to cancel my pre-order but I've decided to see what the phone looks like when I get it. Media will definitely sensationalize any story that they think will get more attention.

I think you'd like her review style, check her out some time. I like her more than most of the people who do video reviews, but she is definitely not an expert on displays or cameras, or anything of the sort. She's an above averagely well informed tech enthusiast.
