Pixel 2 XL Screen Discussion

After paying close attention to this thread and others, I decided to visit my nearest Verizon store to get a look at this thing. The colors looked fine to me. But the blue shift was crazy. The bright blue hue was there even at very slight angles. I was hoping to convince myself it wasn't a big deal, but seeing it in person made me understand what everyone is freaking out about. It would drive me crazy. Such a shame because the rest of the phone is fantastic. I'm glad I canceled my pre-order.

Honestly the more I use the phone the more I like it! I recommend people to using the phone for a bit before returning.
Same here. I've had it since Thursday and told myself I would give it the full 2 weeks before deciding what to do. This thing is really growing on me. I have no issue with the colors at all. They look great to me. Yes, the blue tint is there when the phone is at an angle but I'm hardly noticing it at all in my normal day to day use.

If any of mine looked like that I'd return them in a heartbeat.

Have you used one in person? If the color shift was only at extreme angles then I would consider it a non-issue as well(as all phones shift color/contrast at extreme angles), but the slightest angle causes this. It was really annoying for me when I would use the phone straight on, but had to shift my hand position to reach the top of the screen causing the phone to angle and the top of the screen will be normal then the bottom half would be blue. It was enough for me to return the phone, if Google fixes the issue then I will repurchase.

Yep used one and it wasn't a big of a problem as others have said. Like I've mentioned earlier in here somewhere there's probably some worse than others out there.

Really? You have sample evidence of all the XL 2s that have come off the assembly line to validate your claims? Or do you simply believe everything you read on the internet?

Pretty sure I already know the answer.

Well, considering many reviewers have pointed out the screen issues, from The Verge, to Erica Griffin, to Android Central's very own reviewers, it's not like it's just something that someone made up.

Why not just ignore the haters? Pretend like they don't exist as and don't acknowledge their posts. They will eventually go away. It's just envy.

Envy? No. I have a Note 8 which cost just as much as the Pixel 2 XL and i'm happy about my decision. I was contemplating the Pixel 2 XLs, but the screen issues and the lack of hardware features turned me away.

It's really a midrange device being sold as a premium.

Look, I want the Pixel, ever since last years models. I love what Google does and am a self admitted Google fan boy. Stock Android with quick updates and security patches was the main reason for row ordering one, plus the quick charging, Google assistant, etc.. I was sooo stoked about getting an XL. Then I went to the Verizon store to check it out. Holy Blue Tint, Batman! Even at the very slightest of angles, it was present. It didn't dissuade me, but once I had the Note 8 in my hands, couldn't ignore how gorgeous the display was. Still didn't want to cancel my pre-order.

So I went to another Verizon store, and another. All of the Pixel 2 XLs were just saturated with blue tint at any angle. I could ignore the color blotching and all that other stuff that can be fixed with a software update, but I simply could not take my eyes off how blue the tint was even at the slightest of angles.

Still wanted to wait till I had mine in hand... Until I saw that Samsung would give me $300 for my old LG G4. I started a live chat with Google about their trade in program for the Pixel 2 XL. They refused to allow me to able to trade my G4. Their trade in program is crazy limited in what you can bring in.

So canceled my pre-order and got a Note 8 for $650 plus a fast wireless charger half off. Deal was too good.

I'm hoping with the acquisition of HTC's mobile department, Google can improve next year on their third generation. That's when I'll go back to the Pixel. Gooey has all four the resources and ability to dominate the Android market and then they have LG make their devices and charge $900. Even as a Google fan boy I simply cannot justify that price for a blue tinted phone.

I hope you all enjoy your phones. If I ever get a chance to hop back on to the Pixel bandwagon, I am in. No doubt.

Uh, yeah, in my opinion. I'm not speaking for anyone else.

I don't think the Pixel 2s are premium devices. Their midrange, at best.

Lol so because they don't have the magical s-pen, SD card support ( which no Nexus/Pixel) has had since the galaxy nexus if I remember right, and wireless charging it's mid-range?! Please! The pixel performance wise is still better than Samsung. Besides bleeding edge tech, which most are basically the same on either phone except those three I mentioned above they are both essentially the same thing. Pixel is far from mid-range.

How many *midrange* phones have OS updates for three years, security patches monthly, extra SOC's,best camera ever, free photo storage, killer product support, dual ff speakers,Oreo out of the box,Lens,8.1 coming in a few weeks, to name a few?

:D

Why keep giving them the time of day? Why acknowledge them? Everything you guys keep saying is falling upon deaf ears. Don't waste your time responding to them. They will go away when you ignore them.

Good point!....I musta bumped my head or something. :D

P.S. I've been asking for a *Slap* button next to the thanks button for 6 years, no luck yet.

Your last statement is simply opinion being stated as fact.

Let’s not act like the $950 note 8 is perfect. It’s just as imperfect as the 2 XL, just in different ways.

Did you ever notice that most posters that trash talk a phone rarely use facts? I can only guess at what truly feeds this behavior but I'll keep that to myself.

There are three brands at moment that I won't consider because of their deficiencies yet I will never trash talk in their respective threads. When I do comment, I will talk about features or deficiencies that I don't like but I'll never insult it or tell people not to buy it.
Having said that...the Pixels are not perfect but they are far from mid-range. You know it, I know it and most intelligent consumers know it. There are features and intelligence that are being implemented by Google that are just the beginning.

LOL at all the opinions. Pixel 2 is a mid range device at best?

First of all, normal person don't think this way. Second, I want to see what is in your pocket? A Samsung stutter-fest? Or LG Cant-Live-up-to-the-hype? Whatever you have in your pocket does not have the best camera, nor best Android OS.
