Finally stopped my "problem". My phone was so erratic I was just going to get rid of it. I tried every recommended fix but nothing worked. On a whim I disabled the fingerprint sensor. I now have a properly functioning Pixel. The only downside is that I have to unlock the phone using my PIN#. I hate to lose that ability but it works. I feel certain that it will work for many others.

Just wondering if A) your FPS is faulty or, B) your FPS needs cleaning or, C) an on/off reset of the FPS may do the trick.

Google may be interested if it's faulty and may provide some relief for you with an exchange for a refurb device.
