Pixel 2016 - Sailfish or Marlin?

Re: Nexus 2016 - Sailfish or Marlin?

Depends on price, but I'd prefer the smaller one.
Yup. That's the one in which I am interested.

I'm really, really hoping Google does a Project Fi promotion with it, like they're currently doing with the 5X. If I like the phone I'll be on it in a heartbeat!

Re: Nexus 2016 - Sailfish or Marlin?

To me 5.5" and 5.7" are very close. It's .2" diagonal difference, which amounts to being .17" taller (4.4 mm) and .10" wider (2.5 mm) and has an area of .96in[SUP]2[/SUP] more, or 7% larger. While I like that 7% additional screen space, I don't think it's going to be too drastic and that the real difference in device size will come from bezel control.

But there is a real difference. I have a note 5 and lg g3. I can easily use the G3 one handed, but it's definitely tougher with the Note 5. I also had a Nexus 6 which made the Note 5 seem small in comparison even thought it was 5.9 vs 5.7 inches. That's why 5.5 is the sweet spot IMO

You're missing Aquila's line on bezel control. Both the Moto XPE and Nexus 6P have 5.7" screens and front facing speakers. The 6P is 1/4" taller, because of the top & bottom bezels. That quarter inch makes all the difference to me in one hand operation, especially when accessing the top of the screen. Not to mention pocketability. A 5.5" screen that does not have huge bezels will be even better all around.

I do agree that 5.5 and 5.7 will not be much different visually, unless you have them side by side.

I really hope it will have a 5.7 or bigger screen for the Marlin and let throw in an sd card slot while we are at it.

Allegedly the 2016 Nexus. Both should look like this. Source was Android Police. 1467756852903.jpg

Yeah no idea what the deal is with the extra large glass pane. IMO it looks pretty average/ugly. Certainly not as nice as the HTC 10, either on the front or back.

I thought the glass strip on the Huawei Nexus 6P was strange, but this is taking it to the extreme. Not sure why 40% of the back is a glass (or maybe even plastic) panel. If that's Google taking control over their design language, then.... =/

Hopefully this was an early prototype or something and the final device will look better.

I'm with you but I also thought photos of the 6P looked terrible and in person that device looks fantastic (other than the black bar which is weird and thus hidden by my darth vader skin).

Remember the Nexus 4? It had a back similar to that.

Hmm, I personally don't think the 6P looks 'fantastic'. I think it looks ok, but I don't really like the black bar. This takes the black bar and almost makes a joke of it.

The Nexus 4 had a full glass back, similar to what the iPhone 4 had. It didn't have a glass/metal hyrid back. This looks like a weird 40% glass, 60% metal back and I have no idea why they'd design it like that.

My only thoughts is that this is to support wireless charging (which I believe they currently cannot achieve with a metal body) so this is some sort of compromise to achieve that?

If that is the case, then imo, it doesn't work. Either go with a metal body and exclude wireless charging or go with wireless charging and exclude the metal body. Don't do this.

I'm only speculating with the wireless charging, as that's the only thing I could think of that would need a substantial amount of space that isn't taken up by a metal body.

Re: Nexus 2016 - Sailfish or Marlin?

Yeah, the fact that's not the entire back is weird, but I'll hold judgment until I see it in person. Could be awesome looking.

Yeah, I'm hoping this was an early prototype or something that they had bulit for testing purposes.

I'll wait till we see what the real thing looks like, but can't say I'm a fan of this render.

Re: Nexus 2016 - Sailfish or Marlin?

Oh boy, that looks like another super slippery phone.

Re: Exclusive: this is what the 2016 Nexus phones, Sailfish and Marlin, will look like

This looks absolutely horrendous, but I will give it the benefit of a doubt, because the 6p looked ugly in leaks but in person it looks alot better.

Re: Exclusive: this is what the 2016 Nexus phones, Sailfish and Marlin, will look like

It's an artist rendition. So it could look exactly like that, or nothing at all like that. I don't know how I feel about the rendition, but hopefully something more concrete will come out soon.

Re: Exclusive: this is what the 2016 Nexus phones, Sailfish and Marlin, will look like

Faux pas..

Re: Nexus 2016 - Sailfish or Marlin?

I am not excited about the 5.5" screen size. 5.5" is sorta my self-imposed minimum size (so that puts me by default in Camp Marlin). 6" is my ideal, though, and so I was hoping the new Nexus would actually go back to that gloriously massive Nexus 6 - or better - to bad they didn't have more than just the two sizes, then even more people could be happy!

.
Just a click bait article ..... " The image you're seeing is not an actual press render, but our own recreation "
.
Can't say I'll be disappointed if it's a little different.
