Pixel 2xl on sale bestbuy 400.00

sure, the bootloader is locked. But you don't even have to activate it at the time of purchase. It will work with most carriers.
still a great deal..
mines pushing two years soon, still the best phone I've owned (and I've owned several)

It is a good deal with what a year and a half support.

I unexpectedly found myself having to grab another phone after the vibrate on my (slowing) Moto G5 Plus went out. I thought about getting a G7 since I have had two G "budget" phones that did what I needed. I'm USA based and on Verizon which kind of limits budget and midrange. Do you think the G7 for $300 or the Best Buy Verizon specific Pixel 2 XL makes more sense? I don't need a headphone jack and I could survive without nfc. It's probably been a 6 or 7 years since I flashed anything custom, so I don't think being able to unlock the a Pixel matters to me personally.

I got mine Friday night. Just happened to be browsing my google news feed and saw that article by Android Police, IIRC. Went right over and got the last one available in my area. Passed my Galaxy S7 on to my wife.

That's awesome, Enjoy your new phone!

I guess the question I'd ask is if it's worth the $100 extra to be getting monthly Security updates on time?
There are other benefits to the Pixel 2 line but since you didn't mention any of them I assume that they were not important in your decision tree, and I haven't had a chance to look at the G7 specifications and reviews to see how it would compare.
I'm quite happy with my Pixel 2 XL and wouldn't have gotten any other device at the time I purchased it (~December 2017); if for some reason it died right now (well, after I made this post anyway ) I'd get another one or a OnePlus 6T as a replacement.

My mistake. I thought my post was already a bit lengthy, especially for having been lurking for years and years without ever posting. I have really lost track of the Android world over the last few years. Thank you for any guidance. Anyhow, security updates aren't too important to me. I have become a more 'basic' user than I ever dreamed of. I really appreciate Moto's gestures and probably use the flashlight chop daily. (Yes, I realize the 6T has something similar)

6T doesn't really belong in the same conversation. Maybe if they went to <$500 USD once the 7 comes out, but I'm not sure if I can wait that long or if it will even happen like that. I have a hard time paying that kind of $$$ when I'm not terribly careful with my toys or tools and find anything beyond a slim case/cover frustrating.

No gaming being done. I watch very little media. Do a bit of Kindle reading. I use the (main/back) camera pretty frequently, so a fast camera that takes good pictures would be nice. Mostly daytime outdoor shots.

No headphone jack needed. I'm connected to bluetooth audio devices for most of the day.

Occasional photo/video editing, so faster processing would be nice. Is the processor speed of the Pixel 2 XL that much more noticeable in normal use than the G7? I know anything being sold new right now won't be as draggy as my G5+, but I would really like something that won't be draggy in 2 years.

The chop chop flashlight coming from 4+ years of Motorola is so nice for not waking my wife up. Even better was the ~2010 era Cyanogen lock screen gestures so you could get a few things going without speaking a word or having to unlock the phone.

Not sure expandable memory is needed. I'm only around 30 GB combined now. I would never fill 128.

The Moto G5+ camera has left a lot to be desired. Is the G7 a big jump forward? It sounds like the Pixel 2 XL is a pretty fantastic camera. Had the G7 been released at $250, I probably would have bought it by now. Hitting that magical $300 number has me thinking about going a little more mid range if the value is there.

You didn't say which version of the Moto G7 you were considering (Basic, Power, Play, etc) so it's difficult to give you specific advice but after reading the general specs and a random review of the Basic I'd have to say that the Pixel 2 XL would be much more future proofed.
However, if you like the gestures that Moto has used on their handsets and don't mind an average phone from a display and battery life standpoint then there's nothing really missing from that choice.

I bought one at $399 from Best Buy and they overnighted it for free. The next day BB had it marked down to $349 and they refunded me $50. That's a crazy final price for such a nice phone.

That's an awesome price, considering I just paid off my 2 XL this month....it was $950!

I know. :( I'm considering a OnePlus for my next purchase since it's cheaper. But I fell in love with the camera on the pixel and I love it.

Yeah... I hear you! Once you've tried a Pixel camera, it's *really* hard to consider looking elsewhere!
