Okay, I'm sure you've had enough of The Olympics but how can I resist. Then, there's Mt Rainier looming 14,400 feet above sea level. It has been incredibly clear this week and today we hit our first 70's for the year. Bicycle shorts weather.

Time for a change of pace. My first hike since the Fall. Heybrook Ridge. My calf muscle appears to be working again (fingers remaining crossed).

What gorgeous mountain and wooded pictures. What inspiration! Thank you so much for posting!

Today's two ferry, 52 mile bike ride. Pedaled downtown Seattle and grab the Kitsap Cty foot ferry to Kingston. Pedal down to Poulsbo for lunch and then down to Winslow, Bainbridge Island and catch the WA State Ferry to downtown and then pedal home. I think the entire ferry fair was about $2.00 (g)

We were beat. It is a ride I had not done in quite a while and I suggested it. Usually, we bike up to Edmonds and take the regular ferry across but decided on something different. Of course, my friend had somehow calculated the ride was about 32 miles. A mere 20 miles off!!! It tools along shoreline sections and some small waterfront towns - lots of water views but also very hilly. It is a great loop drive to take out-of-towners on. The ferry is always a hit. Although, apparently due to the monetary loss due to covid, the rates are going up. The car ferry system is part of the WA state dept of transportation. The foot ferry is a county transit operation. And I mistated, just checked my Orca bill and bike and I were $5.00 round trip.

Oh, an article on the WSDOT ferry fleet happened to be in today's paper. Here's an image I captured just now. The San Juan ferry is generally an international route to Vancouver Island but I believe no trips into Canada are happening.

I love this interior shot of the ferry! Ferries in general are so cool! Wow, I wonder how many thousands of calories you burnt off, during that hike! Being 20 miles off is pretty huge! Haha. Looks like you had a lot of fun, though!

This one was pretty bare bones. The WA state ferries are pretty nice although the snack bars have been closed since pandemic. But they sold coffee, espresso, beer (not sure about wine) and food. As that chart shows, the larger ferries can carry over 200 cars and more than 1,000 foot passengers. I've been on occasionally when the fog is really thick and the fog horns are almost non-stop. The foot ferry in the morning passed a freighter's wake and we really rocked and rolled.

That's so exciting! Being on the ferry when a concession stand was open must have been so fun! And being out there on the foggy waters must have been even cooler!

An amusing tale of sorts. One of my first jobs in Seattle was to, well, consult for a consulting firm. One job was to survey ferry passengers for the state. Ask how satisfied they were, what they wanted, what was deficient. I found it very amusing that people complained about the crowding and the shortage of food/drinking options and the lack of electricity for shavers and such. I was originally from NYC. I took the subway in high school and college. I could not even fathom how ferry commuters could complain about anything! My books stayed under my arms by pressure from surrounding subway passengers packed tightly together. The ferries were clean and open and the views incredible. It is all perspective. I still find taking a ferry a treat. And the ride a month back to visit friends on one of the islands, the first in over a year and this bike/ferry excursion were GREAT!

We will call this one Planes, Trains and Bicycles. Boeing fuselages being moved by train. I was on my bicycle.
