Pixel 3: Looking Ahead

The G line has always had LCD displays. And with it being positioned as a less expensive line than the V series, LCD is a lower cost alternative.
Yes, it has always had LCDs, but up until the V30, so did the V series. Yeah it's less expensive than the V line, but in the US, the price difference was only a few dollars a month for them at launch. When you get to flagship level prices, a few dollars a month doesn't really matter. But, decisions like that are probably why LG is doing terribly. I hope they get better at OLED on phones. I just wish they'd practice on their own devices so that way when a device I actually will buy uses their screen (pixel xl), it'll be closer to Samsung quality. I definitely would prefer a Samsung screen on it over an LG.

I agree. It's odd that the G7 would not have the LG OLED. The G series is supposed to be their main line.

I suspect it's a supply issue. We have talked a lot about their partners... Maybe their capacity is going to be tightand they want to save it for the V series and other phone partners who have invested in them.

My thoughts exactly lol.

LG is not abandoning their OLED line... They want to have that grow... It would be a huge market for them. They can just make LCDs at a much higher capacity at a much lower per unit cost.

I loved Pixel 2, but I think it can and it must be even better. Here some ideas:
- Forget the notch. Do something better, go beyond existing limits. Pixel 3 should have a solution more elegant and functional: that would be a big step.
- More AI. Pixel 3 should go ahead and increase predictions and behaviors based on data and environment, as well as improve the way we use Google hardware family. Life could be easier. Wi-Fi is an example: getting connected is already there, but why not getting disconnected and disabling Wi-Fi? Why not tell us when the car needs maintenance (...)
- Stronger phone. Pixel 2 is so fragile! I want a phone I can trust it won't be damaged so easy. I didn't buy more Pixels because my people drop phones almost every day.

I love my pixel 2xl but I do think they can use some improvements for future phones.

Make both P3 & PXL3 have the same look to each other but just different sizes of the screen have the P3 use LCD & PXL3 use OLED.

Improve the speakers I do agree they don't sound the best but they can get better.
the OLED screens are going to get better just like it took Sony a minute for their OLED to look great on their phones the same is happening to LG.

I would like to see a dual camera hell lets get crazy and make it a triple camera like the P20 Pro.
wireless charging would be a nice addition to the phone and maybe also add under screen fingerprint scanner.

I really hope the screen improves this year, or I am going to hold onto my Pixel 2xl.

Id like to see the notch design. I love the look of the notch on the Iphone X

6gb or ram

and support for tombiles 600mhz band

Same screen size but smaller form overall due to bezel reduction would be an mprovement and get my attention. Other than that my current P2 has it all and I would not see any need to upgrade after only one year. A marginally faster processor, better speakers won't be enticing enough. A notch and face ID would ruin it for me. I hope they do not copy that idea.

I am good with the bezels on the 2XL, I like front facing speakers and camera stuff without a notch.

If LG's OLED screens aren't substantially better this year than they were last year, then I'd prefer Google just bite the bullet and get Samsung AMOLED screens or go to an LCD screen or something.

If they're going to charge a premium price for the Pixel 3, they need to provide a premium product.

Yours must be defective or you just prefer Samsung screens. I compare mine to Samsung everytime I happen to be in a store or next to someone using one. I'm not seeing a substantial difference.

IMO Google went to far to the right and too far to the left. The XL is too big and Pixel 2's SCREEN is too small. The form factor is perfect but 5" is just not big enough for my middle aged eyes. Hurts media consumption and makes typing a chore as well. Get rid of the front facing speakers, go stereo like Apple and Samsung, reduce those bezels and call it a day. Should be a 5.8 inch screen. Basically, the GS9 without the curved screen. My money is waiting patiently to hand over too you Google. Thanks.

The Pixel is stereo as far as I can recall

Yeah it is, but they're saying get rid of the front facing and just do them the way Apple and Samsung do. The earpiece will double as a speaker and have a bottom firing speaker so they can reduce the bezels. I personally prefer the FFS, but that's just me.

I prefer FFS as well. They sound much better. I found with my s9 my finger always covered the bottom speaker. The front facing speakers work best for me.

Most people seem to want to FFS. Honestly, as long as I have two speakers I'm good. I use mostly headphones or buds anyway.

Yeah, I prefer FFS, but the 2 speakers on my S9 are good. I find the speaker phone on my S9 is better than my Pixel 2 XL, but for music the Pixel 2 XL is better. I can use it in the shower and it doesn't require me to use my Bluetooth speaker. With the S9, it's just not quite as loud. Either way though, I'm with you, I mostly use headphones. Neither are a deal breaker.

I have used the pixel 2, pixel 2xl and the Iphone X. The Iphone sounds just as good, if not better than the pixel's with their FFS. It's no boom sound, thats for sure. My personal preference is the smaller form factor without the FFS.
