Pixel 4a up for pre-order.

AW YEAH let the fun begin!!!! Google sent me emails and feed notifications. Morty became excited.

Very seriously considering it, especially since I think I saw that I can get a $135 trade-in value for my 3a XL through Google Fi. That would make it only $214 which is insane! Of course, in 5-6 months Fi will probably have it on sale for $300..

FYI Best Buy is doing a pre order sale for $299 for anyone who activates a phone.

New lines only though :( I tried to do an upgrade but no go.

I'm waiting to see what the 4a 5G looks like.

Have been searching for a replacement for my 2XL, and looked at this, and the battery is smaller than what I have now. I know that it is not considered a replacement for the 2XL. I am passing and will wait to see what the next Pixel looks like

I prefer to sell devices myself (via Swappa's site in particular). Both buyer and seller benefit from the agreed price and as the seller you would receive much more than you would from the manufacturer's trade in option.

I have to sell a brand new unopened SE now. I was tired of waiting for the 4A but now I'm glad Google nailed it with this release (despite how long it took). I think iOS has its benefits but I'm really drawn to the Pixel line's call screening and the live captions option. Personally, if the 4A 5G is bigger, and rumored to exclude a headphone jack, I rather stick with this 4A.

Gone are the days of buying flagships for me!

I am definitely getting one. 5G speeds are garbage on my S20 (way slower than H+ on my old Lumia devices) so who cares if the phone is not 5G. Also the headphone jack is a big deal for me even though I have plenty of wireless headphones. Gotta list the 3a for sale now.

The processor is quite a bit more efficient than the 2XL so your screen on time should pretty much be dead nuts. I loved my 2XL when I had it in 2018.

Perhaps this is to reduce color selection anxiety, since, you know, the Ronapocalypse has us already so anxious right now.

Maybe that's what they mean by, "keep it simple."
Yup I think Google decided to have one Bill of Materials to hit that $349 mark.

A few months ago I posted this on a different thread here on AC when the iPhone SE 2 launched.

What some people are missing is that there are folks who like TouchID, who like their current iPhone (6-8) but want a refreshed version with a better processor/camera.
The SE fills that void. My wife is on the iPhone 8 and refuses to get the 11Pro (even though it is slightly larger it's a no go). So this phone makes sense. Update - Mrs. upgraded to a 256GB iPhone SE2.

Also for a lot of people who didn't upgrade to the newer iPhones because they are expensive, the new SE even cuts the base iPhone 8 by $50 so it is the right play by Apple.

SE pros
Water resistance
Wireless charging
OS updates for at least 5 years
Great video
64GB to 256GB storage option available

SE Cons
Bezels and 4.7" screen
No headphone jack
No night mode or portrait for non humans

Pixel 4A Pros
Large display
Headphone jack
Great still photos including portrait and night sight
Direct updates from Google for 2-3 years

Pixel 4a Cons
No water resistance
No wireless charging
Average video quality
Only 64GB storage option

I consider battery life, speaker quality to be a wash between the two devices.

Comes down to small compromises in either device and OS preference. Also I think it is great that consumers have a choice of such amazing devices for $399.
I don't think everyone needs a $1000 smartphone

Now that the Pixel 4A has been announced
There is a new pro - it undercuts the price of the SE2 by $50
And it launches with 128GB only.

So all in all I would say it is probably the best Android alternative to iPhone SE2.
My wife loves wireless charging, loves taking videos, doesn't ever use headphones with a phone and drops the phone mulitple times so SE2 makes sense for her.

I prefer wired charging, don't take videos, always use headphones and prefer the jack and don't care for the walled garden so I am excited about the 4A.

How's the screen? How's the brightness?
Not as good as the high end AMOLED screens on Samsung/Apple etc. But fairly decent for the price. Looks like bright light is when people started to complain, otherwise it's okay.

If you've had your 2 XL for 1-3 years, a brand new 4a will probably have more actual capacity in that 3140mAh cell than a very used 2 XL with years of charge cycles on it.

Not to hijack the thread, but are you considering the Note 20 at all? (this is the poster formerly known as "Retinella", btw).
