Maybe I was just fortunate to pick up a particularly good one at Best Buy, but after a little more than two days with my Pixel 5, I can say without reservation that the sound quality overall is equal to or better than the P2XL that I replaced. On phone calls, the ear speaker and microphone deliver voice sound that seems undiminished in volume and clarity from what I experienced on the P2XL. Moreover, both my wife and I were surprised to find that the ringtones and notification sounds coming from the Pixel 5 are substantially louder than on the P2XL -- which is an enormous benefit to senior citizens like us.
I don't dispute the legitimacy of reports from other purchasers who seem to be encountering less satisfactory sound quality on their Pixel 5 phones. But whether it's due to manufacturing variances or subjective differences, I believe that prospective purchasers would be well advised to test the device for themselves before concluding that it should be rejected based on deficiencies in sound quality.
