Hey guys,

I just saw that the pixel 6 pro is now $200 off on Amazon prime and also on Google's store. I'm still rocking my 4xl. Just wanted to get your opinion on if it's a good time now to buy the 6 pro, or should I wait for the pixel 7? Thanks!

Personally I really like my p6 pro, but I'd wait for the 7 if I'm honest. It should have hardware improvements that is kind of needed. Like better efficiency of Cu and better FPS.

Knowing what I know now, I'd wait to see if the 7 has a better FPS and modem. My two biggest complaints. I will be replacing my 6 with either a 7 (after waiting for reviews this time) or something else. I will not keep the 6 past November.

Thanks for the input. Those are very good points! I do like that the phone is 200 bucks off, I think it makes it very appealing. But maybe I should wait.

Counterpoint -- I love my 6 Pro and would heartily endorse it. FPS has been totally fine for me, and the telephoto and wide angle lenses are absolutely killer! Battery life is also impressive (but as I've mentioned in other threads, I keep 5G off since T-Mobile's 5G is not great in my area, and this helps improve battery overall).

Thanks for this. I would def shut off the 5G if I got the phone.

Try it, but I suggest testing it heavily during your return period. If it works for you in your situation great. But if something is off, return it. It will not get better (at least for hardware based issues).

I would also add you can still get the 24 month 0% financing in the Google Store. That and $200 off sounds like the best deal you are likely going to see. Also, both Pixel 6s get 3 years of Android updates and now 5 years of security updates. Who knows if Google will offer that again on the Pixel 7.

I bought my Pixel 6 Pro at the end of April, when Best Buy discounted the price by $200. At the time, I also faced the dilemma of whether to await the release of the Pixel 7 in the fall; but I was running out of storage space in my Pixel 5, and we were preparing to leave for a 3-week trip through Europe -- where I customarily takes hundreds of photos. So, encouraged by the reports of others here that many of the initial bugs with the Pixel 6 Pro had been resolved, I took the plunge while the price was advantageous. (I've also found that waiting 4-6 months after the release date has advantages, in allowing an opportunity for Google to repair some early glitches and in the availability of price discounts.)

In the 2.5 months since then, the device has been nothing short of terrific for me -- even surpassing the satisfaction level of my beloved Pixel 5, which I did not think possible. The only minor issue I encountered was a brief period early on during which the tap-to-wake function would occasionally fail to work; but pressing the power button from time to time proved a minor inconvenience, and a subsequent update has apparently remedied that problem. Otherwise, I've been very pleased with my decision to purchase the device, which has performed flawlessly in every other respect -- and in particular, has provided consistently superb photos. Regarding battery life, I've found that the Pixel 6 Pro may not boast quite the impressive duration of the Pixel 5, but normally a full charge still provides me two days with a little power to spare. I haven't had any dropped calls, nor have I noticed any weakness in the wi-fi or data reception relative to the Pixel 5.

In fairness, I should add that I'm retired and not a smartphone enthusiast or power user. I'll also concede that I've been extraordinarily fortunate to have experienced almost no problems with my Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 5, and now the Pixel 6 Pro, because I don't doubt that the reports of other users who have dealt with bugs are bona fide -- though it seems to me that those complaints have diminished over the past few months. Your decision is not an easy one. But IMO, you can be comfortable with either option.

Another thing is pixel 7 wont have 200 off like your getting with pixel 6 so take that in consideration as you save some money if you dont need the latest

Yeah I thought about that too. And the biggest negative when I finally do upgrade will be losing my free photo backup from the 4xl. Thank you everyone for your responses!

It takes a little adjustment, but I finally got over the loss of the unlimited Google Photos backups.:p My Photo storage has started to increase dramatically while taking a couple of recent trips, so I started sharing my wife's 100 GB Google One plan, and if/when we start pushing that envelope, I'll be more than willing to pay for even more. For me, the strength of this camera is well worth paying for the extra storage!

For me the magic number is $300 or more off :p I think after the 7 releases the price will drop a lot on the 6 line, and it sounds like there should still be plenty of inventory to liquidate. I'm a pixel guy so I don't mind waiting for the deals to come to me... but if the 7's a much better phone I'd pick it up for $200 off. The extended security updates make it worth it to me... even being the cheapskate that I am lol.

This won't be the last time the 6 line will be $200 or more off ;)
