I bought my Pixel 6 Pro at the end of April, when Best Buy discounted the price by $200. At the time, I also faced the dilemma of whether to await the release of the Pixel 7 in the fall; but I was running out of storage space in my Pixel 5, and we were preparing to leave for a 3-week trip through Europe -- where I customarily takes hundreds of photos. So, encouraged by the reports of others here that many of the initial bugs with the Pixel 6 Pro had been resolved, I took the plunge while the price was advantageous. (I've also found that waiting 4-6 months after the release date has advantages, in allowing an opportunity for Google to repair some early glitches and in the availability of price discounts.)
In the 2.5 months since then, the device has been nothing short of terrific for me -- even surpassing the satisfaction level of my beloved Pixel 5, which I did not think possible. The only minor issue I encountered was a brief period early on during which the tap-to-wake function would occasionally fail to work; but pressing the power button from time to time proved a minor inconvenience, and a subsequent update has apparently remedied that problem. Otherwise, I've been very pleased with my decision to purchase the device, which has performed flawlessly in every other respect -- and in particular, has provided consistently superb photos. Regarding battery life, I've found that the Pixel 6 Pro may not boast quite the impressive duration of the Pixel 5, but normally a full charge still provides me two days with a little power to spare. I haven't had any dropped calls, nor have I noticed any weakness in the wi-fi or data reception relative to the Pixel 5.
In fairness, I should add that I'm retired and not a smartphone enthusiast or power user. I'll also concede that I've been extraordinarily fortunate to have experienced almost no problems with my Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 5, and now the Pixel 6 Pro, because I don't doubt that the reports of other users who have dealt with bugs are bona fide -- though it seems to me that those complaints have diminished over the past few months. Your decision is not an easy one. But IMO, you can be comfortable with either option.
