Pixel 7 not blocking SPAM calls anymore

I don't know if I posted in the right forum.

I have a Pixel 7 running Android 14 and I am suddenly getting a TON of Spam phone calls that are distracting me a lot. I have "See caller and SPAM ID" as turned on and I have Call Screen as Maximum Protection.

All of these calls are the same area code as my phone, which is about 1000 miles away from me. While call screening is catching them, it's also causing my phone to vibrate for each missed call, none of which I care about. I am reporting each one as Junk to Google, but it requires me to put some explanatory message in each time. I'm getting so many, it's too hard.

I have had this phone 2 years and only started to have this problem in the last week. What changed? Any help would be appreciated on making sure these SPAM calls, all from the same area code of my own phone (to which I don't usually receive calls), don't notify me. I'd also like to turn dow my call screening from maximum to medium, as I just almost missed a very important call, but I answered it since it looked like a local area code and I'm glad I did.

Verizon. And it used to have call screening. Based on your point, I went to their website and saw that my SPAM filter has been turned down. So I changed it from High-risk only to All Spam calls.

I think that it is important to remember that just because you get spammed doesn't mean you have a bad spam filter. Conversely, just because you don't get spam doesn't mean you have a good spam filter. Spam filters rely on spam databases and software algorithms to filter out spam. Spammers often spoof new phone/text numbers that wouldn't necessarily be in any existing spam database and they learn to circumvent some software algorithms. That is why it is important to report spam when you get it so that the information can be added to existing spam databases and spam filter coding. The battle against spam is long term and ever changing.

The best defense; never give your phone/text number or email address to anyone outside of your immediate circle of family, friends and associates or any company unless it is absolutely critical that you do so. While not foolproof (one of your contacts can be hacked and your contact Info retrieved by the ne're-do-wells, spammers can dial random numbers and hit yours with auto dialers, etc.), I have followed this rule for years and I get about 10 spams in total a year.
