No horror stories that I've heard, but I never did a mail-in trade in with them. In store trade in is seamless, as one would expect, but the downside to that is you've given up your old device and are sol if you hate the new device.

I usually go all in with the new device once I’ve decided to upgrade …but it would be nice to do it like Apple Store ..you get two weeks after purchase to turn in old phone for trade in and counted towards your purchase ..plus they give you tax back on the trade in amount …

This is the main reason I don't like to trade in inside a store.

I remember hearing a couple of horror stories on this forum in regard to Google when mailing your old phone back for the trade in credit. Was wondering the same thing with BB. I guess it might be best to video resetting the OS etc.

I had a 'scare' with a Google trade-in that lasted about 6 weeks but was finally resolved.

Trading in by mail is great in that you can defer sending in the trade a bit, allowing you to be sure you want the new one, and time to facilitate getting everything transferred over the way you like (easy reference for PW's, etc); but it suffers in terms of longer delay for credit, and risk of loss/damage during shipment or disagreement over final assessment of value. Definitely worth video recording both the resetting of the phone as well as the operating condition while boxing for shipment.

Trading in in-person is great as it completely removes that concern over getting an agreed-upon credit amount, but leaves you a bit stuck if you decide you want to back out of the deal, as there's no way to get your old phone back.

Both have their pros and cons... If I were going from one OEM to another where I had less than absolute confidence I'd prefer the new device, I'd almost certainly seek a mail-in trade option, but from one Pixel to another, I'm comfortable going the in-store route this time.

That it's definitely a great deal and trade-in at BB will be easy I've done them a few times.. I think this phone is going to be solid and you're going to be very happy with it..

I tell myself every year that this is the phone I'm keeping for 2-3+ years and without fail next release I'm right in there with the pre orders LOL.
Although this time I am already having thoughts of returning the P8 so maybe I turned a new leaf??! I was going to cancel the order but the option was gone when I went to go do it. Don't get me wrong, the P8P looks like a really good upgrade, but I'm very much enjoying my S23U and 7 Pro combo ... And honestly I am enjoying the S23U experience more than the 7 Pro experience as of late.

I may end up returning it and holding on to my 7P and look to the Pixel 9/10 series to upgrade my 7P. I shall try anyway ... and I stress try! No telling what happens once I get that shiny new device in hand LOL

I just get some cool cases, and switch them out when I start getting a little bored... that plus some neat wallpaper and theme changes keeps my phones feeling exciting for several years or more... so not to hard to hang onto them for awhile

Plus I work hard at keeping them looking like new so the screens and cases never look ratty or beat up.. helps give the impression of a new phone, which mentally helps me keep them longer

Same here... when I get a new phone it never goes back, it's a one and done deal. So I'd have no problem trading in an old phone knowing I'd never see it again, because I wouldn't plan on seeing it again.. or even wanting to lol.

I had initially pre-ordered the P8, but then I saw how much Google had made Pro-only features, like all the camera post-production stuff, and it just didn't make any sense. The last 2 years, I could justify getting the regular model because all I was missing was zoom and a curved panel. Now Google is clearly drawing a line in the sand between those who just want good pictures, and those who want everything else. It's kinda sad.

No sane manufacturer is going to put everything on a $700 phone that they put on a $1000 phone.

But that's basically what Google had done with their past phones. The only things that differentiated the pro and un-pro model were inevitably tied to the physical limitations, or were negligible. Some examples were:

90hz vs 120hz
Curved panel vs flat
Extra lens with zoom and macro

Besides that, you basically got the same experience, just in a smaller model.

This year, they've put all the cool video stuff behind the pro paywall. It would make sense if that stuff was happening internally and the pro model was doing more because it had better internals, but it doesn't. It does it in the cloud, meaning the phone itself isn't doing any heavy lifting.

Edit: to be specific, video boost and zoom enhance both sound amazing and incredibly useful...but both are Pro-only features. They have nothing to do with hardware, and are both processing tricks, but Google felt the need to put them behind a paywall.

Wow, I've been going through Google for my phones, but that Best Buy trade in deal is about $200 better than Google's deal. The thing that annoys me with BB is that I have to stand there in the store and move all of my stuff over while the employee stands there kind of annoyed looking at me. Its much easier to do it at home on my own time and make sure I have everything as I had it on the old phone. I also kind of swore of BB after I preordered it one year, arrived at the store 10min before they opened and they didn't have my phone so I went home empty handed. Not the store employees fault it wasn't sent to them, but I was really annoyed.

Check out https://www.itsworthmore.com and see what they offer for your phone. If it is equal to, or more than BB, keep the old phone and after the new one is all set up, send the old one to them.
I did that with my P7 trade in this year, got $76 more than BB offered. Been using them since 2017 w/o issues.

I remember the year BB didn't have the phones...I said many colorful words

I agree with you. I don't like them artificially differentiating between the models with software features that everyone should have. I also don't like how they don't roll out new software features to older models after a month or so like Sammy usually do, leaves a sour taste in my mouth and makes me not want to support them. Even Apple does better by it's loyal users than that.

Yet here we are, excited about their next flagship, eagerly waiting for our preorders.

I'm not trying to bash Google, as like everyone else in this thread, I am excited and am a fan. I just wish they had a small form factor that kept the pro-only features. I'm just glad the Pro I'm getting doesn't have a curved screen, because then I would have had to get one of those dome screen protectors, and THAT product I hate with a vengeance.
