Pixel Halo effect?

So here are some example shots, first from the pixel, then from the 6p. Mind you I'm not a professional photographer, I just picked up the phone pointed and took the photo. Obviously with a little bit of actually trying to make a lens flare happen.

This is what we are seeing, both in that video and in the OP's initial post. Then below we see what the 6p does in the same situation:

This lens flare occurs on the 6p as well. In the second photo you can see the lens flare underneath my dog's water bowl. The flare on the 6p is nowhere near as noticeable as on the pixel, but it is definitely there.

Bottom line, this is something that all cameras are susceptible to, sure. But it seems the pixel is more susceptible to being photo-killing than normal.

Also of note, I tried to recreate the same purple Arc that the pixel sees on the second photo on the 6p and could not do so.

This is definitely not normal lens flare. I have the black Pixel XL and it's easy to reproduce the flare in a normal lighting condition. I have my pixel inside of a Spigen rugged case And i still get the halo. I've actually called Google and they've reported that this is a reported issue with the Pixel, however, not all of them seem to be affected. I just ordered a replacement through Fi. But, I don't believe the issue will be resolved. I'm thinking they'll just send me another brand new unit with the same problem. The good thing is, it will be here within a day.

As for the halo, let's hope that it can be resolved with some algorithms or something, LOL!

Do keep us updated either way. I'd like to know if it would be worth putting in for a replacement or not.

I'm one of the lucky ones.(32gb Black pixel, bought outright from jb hifi, aus) Good too. As I've already exchanged my first pixel for an uneven screen tone.
I tried to get the flare but I only got flare when I aim pretty close to the sun. Tried alot of angles. Seems to be all good.

This gives me hope.

Stop shooting at light sources. Problem solved. People love complaining about non problems.
Oh my goodness. Please take a look a couple posts above at my shots. The second pixel photo with the purple Ark is a perfect example of what could be a candid indoor shot. Precisely the type of photo a smartphone camera is made for. A house at night time is full of light sources. Does this mean we shouldn't take any photos after dark?

I've owned many smartphones with many different qualities of cameras. I've also been on these forums with many of those phones. This is the first one I have owned that has exhibited lense flare to an extent great enough to have its own threads appearing on Android Central. Don't try to downplay the issue simply because it seems like a non issue to you.

Same problems here on the smaller Pixel with 128 in black. Camera is awesome, but these lens flares are ridiculous. I never had this problem with any phone camera before, neither on any of my prof. DSLR equip.

Has anyone had any issues with a halo effect when shooting in sunlight? //uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161023/37cf770ed5ea8c5c3e1efa888f0e7f47.jpg there is a slight halo but others are reporting worse

I get weird artifacts which are more apparent in video. The problem is more than just halo.

This is a real distraction. Never had this issue with any phone I've ever had. Sadly had to turn in my note7 for this thing. Smh.

I guess it doesn't matter if it says "Google" on the device - after years and years of testing HTC manufactured devices, one thing is obvious for me now: don't ever buy anything from HTC. Never. My unit is also having a severe greenish yellow tint on 75% of the screen.

The Halo effect seems to happen on certain Pixel and Pixel XL' s. There has been a few complaints about it and Google is aware of the issue.

Interesting, I notice it on some of the pictures a lot, some picks are not as noticeable. I don't shoot a lot pictures, but lately I have since all these phone cameras are touted as being so nice. I haven't seen the issue in any of my photos yet, but my pictures haven't been by direct light or in a position where the sun was in them. Not by choice, but just chance. I'll have to take more to see if I get this issue.

I remember years ago, older cameras getting lens flare here & there.

Aahhh no, the complaint is legitimate. Many of us don't need a strong light source to produce the flare. In fact, I'm trying to figure out if you even read the thread, because if you had you'd not have made that silly remark.
