Pixel - Signal dropping (Update: Google Knows)

Highest rated phone for issues and returns would be more like it . Lots of catching up to do if they wanna be the apple of the Android world!

They apparently already are the Apple of the Android world. Remember Apple's iPhone4 "AntennaGate"?!

I suggest you move on to another thread to enter and complain in. If you were in fact enjoying these issues as much as everyone else, you would be playing a different tune. Your device works great, that's fantastic. Everyone else has a device that does not work as expected. This isn't a Kyocera device. It's Google.

Every forum member will come in and share their opinion and angers about this issue until it is completely fixed. I sold my pixel. Couldn't wait any longer.

If you sold it, then why are you still here complaining? I'll stay, thanks. Someone needs to provide the counterbalance to the 5 people complaining over and over about the same thing.

People with connectivity issues needs to send Google feedback. Hit the settings, then swipe over to support, toward the bottom of the screen , it says send feedback. We need to let them know, they say they know, but we need to make sure. Google is dragging their feet I'm sure.

Who elected you as moderator? There are articles on every major android site about this and a lot more than 5 people with problems. About 500 posts in multiple threads. I experimented with this real life in the Verizon store recently. My droid Turbo, a galaxy S7 and LG V20 all within 5 feet of each other all set to LTE/CDMA mode. All the phones had signal strength right at -70 dBm and the Pixel right in the middle of them was -93. The store manager had a Pixel in his pocket and it was -102. He told me it drops a lot of calls. There really is an issue. This forum was meant to help people and discuss real problems and look for solutions. There is no need for you to "counterbalance" the thread. This is not politics requiring equal time.

You're obviously joking as there are a lot of people with this issue. You don't have to own the phone to be concerned, We are all Google fans to some degree. I was on the verge of buying the phone when this issue started cropping up. Surprised the heck outta me as Google stated the idea behind the glass on the upper back was for better signal. In any case I'm disappointed but waiting for a fix so I can maybe pick one up. That's why I come in here. I'm a Google fan and potential customer.

I sold it. I created the thread so I'm sticking to it. Thanks. You're a special snowflake right now. Yours works. Go kick rocks and make a phone call.

Some people are saying my Pixel shows x dBm less than another phone, so its reception must be worse. These people are forgetting (or just don't know) that there are different bands. And even if the phones are on the same bands, they still can connect to different towers. You can check GCI value to tell that.

My Pixel signal is about 10 dBm weaker than my old Droid in the same place. But the difference is the Droid can't maintain a connection to band 4 and drops to band 13, which always has better range, while the Pixel can stay connected to band 2 and 4 and only drops to 13 if I move it farther from the window.

Another misconception, as I already mentioned, is mixing "signal drop" and "no LTE at all" issues. The first one is experienced mostly by people in the US and Canada. The second is mostly South America and Europe. The cause of the second issue is most likely incorrect mapping of MNC (mobile network code) to LTE band sets. If you don't believe me, download a factory image, extract modem.img and see it for yourself. Another proof is a user at https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/phone-by-google/OxkJ1Sn6i5c/L4ewjVzZBAAJ who manually changed the band set to Japan got LTE working.

Hopefully a little bad press and sending feedback will make Google give us an answer or fix. Hope their is not a recall, went through Note 7 recall, don't want to do it again. Should have picked a different brand phone.

At this point, I will take a recall. It would be better for me personally then to be stuck with something that I can not use and can not return. At least with a recall you get back

I don't know if this means much, but on the Google Store, there is a 2-3 week wait for shipping, when I selected the Pixel "5 Black 128 gig. I don't know if it's because they are fixing something or what?

It's that they did not produce many initially. Even when the phone was first released they were backordered for a long time.

Some people ordered them a month ago or longer and are still waiting for them

From everything that I have read nothing has officially been disclosed from Google. I would be more inclined to think it is all software related. Im really hoping that is the case as it would be easier for them to patch on their end rather then issue all the thousands of handsets they will be reissuing. Ive also read some things on this being blamed on the release of 7.1 Nougat. There were many Nexus phone users complaining of the same issues that once they updated to Nougat 7.1 they started having dropped calls, poor 4g lite connectivity and major battery drain as well. They had never had this prior to 7.1 It's anyones guess at this point but I am betting it's software.

I am aware of bugs and glitches in anything new but for many people when this can't even be used as intended, google is going to have to hope by some miracle of fate they find out sooner then later what the culprit of these problems are and get them corrected as we are already coming up on the 16th or 17th day of dealing with this. I am on my second phone already and past the exchange or return period so my only option is to sell but I would feel guilty selling this to someone knowing they may end up with the same issues, even if they use it on another carrier

So does this appear to be software/firmware related or is this a hardware issue?

UPDATE: It's still not certain whether this is a hardware or software issue, but this article from Tech Times, suggests I should postpone or cancel all together my purchase of the Pixel, depending on whether there is a fix or not. I am in Argentina, and use MOVISTAR. Below is a quote from the article.

"I'm having the same problem in Argentina. We have 3 main carriers here, and I tried all of them. For some reason there is ONLY ONE where LTE works and thats "PERSONAL." I have CLARO and it does not get LTE, also tried MOVISTAR and no luck," noted a Pixel user in South America.

If you really want a Pixel bad enough, I would say go for it! You may be one of the lucky ones that does not encounter any issues with it. If you are, Google will send you another one. I am not trying to sway anyone away from this phone. I just want to make sure people are informed about some of the issues before they go spending their hard earned dollars on one of these if its performance is going to be "Iffy". There are far too many other choices out there

That would mean that this would more then likely not work out for you as the carrier you are on is mentioned here. Maybe they will have this sorted out if it is a software issue by the time you order and receive yours, if that is what you decide
