Pixel XL 2, Pie update and messages

[Android Central Question]

After the Pie update, when my daughter (who has an iPhone) texts me, I get a messages bubble that pops up. Similar to Facebook messenger. It's difficult to open, it's hard to explain, but it kind of snaps back off the viewable area when clicked. Eventually it will open, but it's not my default text application. Does anyone know what's going on and how I can stop it?
