Pixelbook or Slate ?? Ugh.. decisions.

So, I personally hate this type of thread. The "Help Me Decide" type, I mean. However, I really want some different thoughts on this if you guys care to chime in..

So fact is that it's time to upgrade my Chromebook. It's been a great five years, but it's no longer being supported.

So, I was pretty set on getting the $799 Slate + keyboard + pen. Grand total of $1,098. Have been waiting to see how things might go during holiday sales, right?

Well now it's being reported that the Pixelbook will be $300 off list price starting next week. Since my primary use would be in desktop mode, this is looking like an attractive choice if the pricing holds true.

I really like the form factor of the Slate, but $300 bucks is $300 bucks... Sheesh.

Thoughts on how I might think through this decision?

If you don't think you'll really use it as a tablet, I'd go for the Pixelbook. It's such a great machine, and a known quantity as well. First impressions that I've read and heard about for the Slate have been a little tepid. You may want to wait until you can try the Slate yourself at a store before you make the final decision (ideally at a store that has a wi-fi connection, or otherwise tether it to your phone while you try it).

Indeed. You're right that I expect to use the new purchase, either PB or Slate, primarily in besktop mode. When the PB first launched my current Chromebook was still being supported, but that ended in late spring.

I had concerns around the sturdiness of the 360 hinge and a minor aesthetic gripe about the bezels on the PB. But when I really think about it, the PB is probably the better fit for where I am with my tech at the moment.

I need to swing through a store and check one of them out. Like a BB or something.

The hinge on the Pixelbook seems super-strong to me. No worries about it becoming loose. The whole thing is built really well.

Well, after much contemplation, I think right now the Pixelbook is going to be the better fit for my use cae. I REALLY like the Slate, but I'm looking to replace a laptop more than a tablet. and with $300 off the Pixelbook right now, is just a better fit for me in 2018.

I'll be in here this section still though. Really interested in hearing how some of you like the device.
