Played with a Pixel XL today!!!!!

Same decision for me. Battery life will be better on the Pixel but V20 is swappable. Screen will def be better on the XL, but the 2nd screen on the LG is enticing. I'm thinking about getting the XL as I don't think the LG is going to sell well and is going to lab behind for updates, but who knows.

The v20 is going to sell very well now that the note 7 is toast

Yeah, I can't decide between the three phones. Pixel XL, LG V20, and IP7+. Part of me is leaning now towards iphone, because I've had many and I am comfortable with them. I've never owned an LG and with the Pixel being Google's first actual phone, that scares me a little. I just gave up my Note 7 due to the fire recall. :(

thanks for the info - looking forward to the 21st when mines is delivered. I didn't know about the swipe down on the finger scanner - that's cool they added the feature.

Technically it's not Google's first actual phone. I think the main difference between the Pixel and Nexus phones is Google is doing things more like Apple does with Foxconn, except their using HTC. They are in total control of how the hardware works with their software. If that scares you, then that's your decision, but IMO the way they're doing it now will make the experience better.

Having said that, I have an Iphone 7 Plus, and I think you may like it. I know I will like the Pixel XL better because I'm more into t Google's ecosystem. :)

Can you buy it unlocked from best buy?

Everything I've seen so far suggests that even if you buy the phone outright ($799 for 32GB) it is still a Verizon phone. I take this to mean that the phone has a locked bootloader too.

Not likely. The S7 Edge might get a bump though.

I doubt that. Most average consumers don't know the difference between s7 and note 7. They just know a Samsung 7 explodes. It's going to be hard for Samsung to recover from this. Ironic that they up'd the version of the note to 7 for continuity. It screwed them.

The only real difference between this and nexus is the name. Hauwei didn't want the 6p to be 1440p. That was a Google call. Google designed the last nexus line but let the manufacturer use it as a selling point. They got hauwei a lot of recognition in the US as a result. Pixel is Google's move into mainstream OEM territory. It's still a reference device. But it's basically their answer to ****ty skins. They've been pretty hard on how crappy TouchWiz is and how it's making Android look bad. This is google saying, hey guys...this is how you skin Android without ruining the user experience.

Lol please give "the average consumer" more credit than that. Most of them certainly do no the difference. If just along the fact of the s7 edge being the phone that Lil Wayne poured champagne on(couldn't believe how much of a hit it was) to the note being known as the phone with the pen. We are not talking about iPhone users here. People are becoming more educated about Samsung and their different phones(high end ones at least).

the general public who has to return a defective samsung device wont choose another samsung device. i even dumped my s7 edge
There is no reason to dump Samsung over this. Even with the battery fiasco, they're still the most reliable, highest quality Android phones.

Touchwiz is pretty good these days. There is a reason Samsung phones are number one in sales and in reviews.

I'd agree that there's no practical reason to dump Samsung over one issue (especially given how they've been responsible in how they've addressed it) - S7 and S7 Edge are both still exceptional units well worthy of consideration in the premium phone market. Can't say that I'd agree about them being the most reliable, highest quality Android phones (are you aware of any statistics reporting reliability? As to quality, if you're not referring to build quality (which would be addressed under reliability) then I presume you are referencing quality of premium materials or added feature/function, in which event there are a number of others that win or lose that battle, depending on individual user preferences.

There is a reason, but it has little to do with Touchwiz. Like Apple, it is primarily due to exceptional brand-building and marketing prowess that have allowed them to set themselves ahead of a pack of other devices/brands that are easily arguable as its peers.

To be clear, I'm not knocking Samsung in any way - the S7 Edge is on my very short list of phones I'm looking to as my next, imminent upgrade.

I mean I get they make good phones (I have used plenty) to call them "still the most reliable" when their replacement phones even blew up is kind of a stretch. Also when is a Nexus 6P or something not "as reliable"? That seems like a hard metric to judge.

Indeed.... I mean, anecdotally, while my 6P has hummed along like a finely tuned Swiss watch while my wife's S7 had several problems and her Note 7... well....

I'm just going off of personal experience and anecdotal evidence when it comes to reliability. I'm not saying Touchwiz is super great, but Touchwiz isn't bad either. Not like people say it is.

My family has mostly owned Samsungs over the years and I'm the only one that has ever had an issue. They're certainly more reliable than brands like LG.

My last TouchWiz experience was an s6 edge. And it was pretty bad. Memory leaks all day. I basically had to restart my phone daily to use it reliably.

Based on your experience sure -- but you were saying it as if it is just a fact and others aren't as reliable.

I'm here looking at the Pixel info as a n7 owner who needs to return my device. I am having a hard time distinguishing some of the features as Android or Samsung... For instance, scroll capture. Is that an Android thing or a Samsung feature?

I want my s-pen! I heard the n5 is now discontinued, and I am not willing to give up my upgrade for an s7.

Also, I just read an article stating that the Pixel won't work on sprint... Is this true? And it apparently can't be purchased with an upgrade? I've been Samsung for a long time and never interested in anything else, so I'm sorry for all the dumb questions. Lol 😁
