please excuse my ignorance galaxy s4 versus droid max

I wonder if it's possible to help charge up our friends galaxy devices with a otg micro usb to usb host cable lol.

I charge my phone every 2 or 3 days. Nuff said.

Hehe, interesting. I charge my S4 every 2-3 days as well. Usually more than 6 hours of screen time and have even gotten 7+

So you're saying you have a dead phone most of the time? I find it hard to believe you're getting 2-3 days with 6+ hours when the screenshot you posted above shows just over a day with 7 hours screen time. I guess it's POSSIBLE, but it's no where close to what the average person will get using the phone normally. The S4 is great phone with a lot of cool features, but there is no way it will ever compare to the MAXX on battery, and implying it does is complete bull ****.

It was 27 hours, I turn my phone off at night. My normal day is school at 8 AM and I go to bed around 10 PM (14 hours) so it's two full days for me. And I said it wasn't as good as the Maxx but for most people the battery on the S4 is more than enough

In a thread where someone is trying to compare 2 phones, don't you think it's a bit misleading to say you go 2-3 days between charges without mentioning your phone is off almost half the time?

I guess but I have left it on a few times and it only loses about 5% overnight. Would only lose about 15-20 minutes of screen time from that.
Either way, most people charge their phone every night so basically any of the recent flagships are good enough to make it through a day of use.

I would say it's clearly misleading.

Minus the custom mod and whatever benefits it might have on the battery, I know numerous people with GS4s and none of them rave about the battery life, and all complain about issues with idle drain.

The average user might not have trouble getting through the day with the most recent set of flagships, namely the GS4, but many heavy users would, and this is not so with the Maxx.

This is the 1st smartphone I've had where it's like owning a flip phone back in the day. I literally never have to worry about my battery discharging before I get home, no matter what.

Because I know many more people with GS4s than Maxx's, with a much larger sample size for poling, I can tell you honestly, many GS4 owners are relatively dissatisfied when it comes to their battery life . You can argue performance all day, and I believe the Maxx is actually still superior in that department, despite the lower specs, but this phone has revolutionized the game when it comes to battery battery life.

Even on the stock ROM I would get 5+ hours most of the time and 6+ the rest of the time. All on 4.2.2
My mom updated to 4.3 and it's even better. Most of the people I know with a GS4 say the battery is great
And I disagree with the performance

So you would say the S4 is less laggy than the Maxx? I've almost never seen the Maxx lag after 3 months with it. I've played with my friends S4 and in a matter of minutes I've noticed it stutter. If you read on S4 forums, this is a known issue. I'm aware that it's improved significantly since the release, but it's definitely not as smooth as the Maxx, or any of the new Moto variants.

Agreed. I've not had my Maxx lag one time on me, but my S4 did it quite often. And as I've said, I was lucky to make it 8 hours and still have any battery left (bearing in mind this is in a "no Samsung signal area"), whereas with the Maxx I literally never worry about my battery (or missing calls and text messages for that matter. Yay Motorola radio!).

Agreed but the S4 has far better hardware and using a custom ROM or having the GPE completely eliminates it :p

Whether a custom ROM eliminates it or not, not everyone wants to root their phone. The fact that you had to mod it right out of the box to get non laggy performance is a point in the Maxx's favor right there. A lot of people don't feel comfortable rooting their phones. It's a personal choice, and it most certainly shouldn't be necessary to get the best performance out of your phone.

True but you also have to think, that most of the people who buy these phones could care less about what ROM their phone has or what skin is on it. These same people don't notice lag or stutters in performance. Those of us who do, will usually fix it by rooting/flashing.

Not always. My dad is new to smart phones (and texting) so he got the RAZR m a few months ago to replace his old LG flip phone. He asked if he could see my S4 when I had it and he mentioned that it wasn't as smooth as his phone. So even non techy people will notice when it's bad.

Ok. Lets just leave it at this
GS4 Pros: Camera, screen, expandable storage, removable battery, gaming.
Maxx Pros: Battery life, build quality and software
Only one of these that can be changed is the software. In which case they'd basically be the same on a custom ROM

I returned the S4 for the Maxx and wouldn't even think about going back. The battery alone is worth it. Regardless of benchmarks, in the real world, the Maxx is smoother and faster. The screen is just as good despite the huge resolution difference. In fact, I like the Maxx's screen better.

On the software side, it's no contest. The Maxx is near stock Android with a few enhancements. That's a huge reason the phone is so smooth...

Get the MAXX if you need to have a signal. I had signal issues out of the box with my first S4. First let me say I LOVE the S4. The menu structure and camera are the best.

90% of my use of my phone use is in a rural area, so good signal strength is the most import thing.

Verizon has replaced my Galaxy S4 three times in the last 4 months in an attempt to get a phone with good reception. I have sat side by side with other Verizon customers who were using their phones(motorolas) for calls and for data, yet I had NO signal. I could not make a phone call, send a text or use any data. This has become a constant problem with the S4. It has been the exact same on all three S4 phones. Can anything be done to increase reception?

I am trying very hard not to knock the phone. I absolutely love the menu structure. The menu structure and the camera is why I chose the S4. They are the best out there! Unfortunately, I will not be able to use them and I will have to settle for less.

The last straw. I also have a Verizon MiFi hotspot. I was sitting with Verizon friends who were making calls, texting and surfing the internet (they each had 2 bars of signal strength showing). I had ZERO bars of anything. I turned on the MiFi and it had 4 bars of signal. I connected my S4 to the MiFi via wireless and made my calls using Skype & Magic Jack!! Since then I have noticed that my MiFi will have 4-5 bars when the S4 has 1 or none??

I tried real hard to stay with the S4, but its lack of reception forced me to a different manufacturer's device. I am now on my 4th phone in 5 months. I regretfully traded in my S4 for the Motorola Maxx. Now, I have signal in areas that I had none on the S4. I am able to use my phone now, but I do miss the S4 for its features. The menu, camera and just plain basic functionality on the Maxx is no where as nice as on the S4, but I can make calls where I could not with the S4. Besides being able to use the phone, the battery is the only thing the Maxx has the S4 beat at.

If there is nothing that can be done for an S4, it there a different model Samsung with great rural reception that has a similar menu structure and camera?

I have never had a Moto phone but I have heard that the radios are better. But are they really that much better? I always thought it would be the difference of a couple of signal bars.

Disagree with the screen. I have used the X and while the screen was really good, it wasn't quite as good as the S4. The Maxx has a lower PPI so it can't be better than either the X or S4
