Hey everybody, I just spoke with HTC support about this and he said I was the first person he had spoken with who even had the Gingerbread update. So this was not previously an issue on their radar. Let's put it there! Those of us in the USA would call 866-449-8358. But don't do it from the phone you're calling about, they ask, I guess since they'll be asking you to fiddle with the phone while you talk and plus you may need your MEI number, which lives under the battery.
After he went and got a Gingerbreaded Dinc2 on his end and played with it to try to replicate the issue (it occurs to me now that i don't know if the same thing was happening to his), he said the only thing he can suggest at this point is a factory reset. I'm going to try that tonight once I make sure I know all of the stuff I've got so I can get it again if something goes wrong (like apps I got on free day at Amazon, etc.).
He also suggested that I download some other apps from the market as substitutes until this gets fixed. So, just need an alarm for waking, a timer for cooking, a stopwatch for various stuff, etc. I think there was one more thing in there but I can't remember.
I asked him whether, since they just pushed out the Gingerbread update, they'd be likely to push out another update anytime soon, and he said they typically wouldn't push out an update for one little thing like this, but it all depends on how many people they hear from. If lots of people are calling in with various problems, that can influence them to release an update sooner. So don't be shy. It was an easy call and the guy I got was easy and knowledgeable.
He said the same thing happened to the Thunderbolt after an update (I don't remember hearing of it but I pay less attention to that forum after I returned that phone). He said that a later update fixed it. So I imagine this will get fixed at some point if enough issues pile up.
I also asked if I'd have to reupdate to Gingerbread after the factory reset and he said no - it will remember the most current firmware despite the factory reset.
So there you go. It's now a known issue but could use more weight of other people calling into HTC to let them know. I'll crosspost this in the other Gingerbread issues thread.
