Hey guys/girls i'm new here and i really need some help with my new phone...

Alright so basically i just received my new phone. It is an HTC One M8 that i bought just yesterday. So far i absolutely love it, especially it's design.

However, i decided to see whether or not it needed Android updating so i went into (settings) and then clicked (About) and then (Software Update) to see whether any updates were available and a message popped up stating that Software update 4.18.708.12 (660.74MB) was available and it contained a major update which included the newer Android 5.0 Lollipop update.

I clicked the "download" button and it started downloading saying it was going to take an estimate of around 8 minutes. All was going well, it downloaded it, and then progressed to a screen with a green synch like icon saying it was installing the new update... Great! But, after a quarter of the way through the update a red triangle with an exclamation mark through it showed up on the screen!! :(

Now i will be absolutely clear here, my phone is BRAND NEW and has NOT BEEN ROOTED!!!!!

To be sure of this, i downloaded several apps on the Play Store including a couple of different root checker apps and all the apps i used stated my phone was definitely not rooted!

I then placed my phone into "bootloader mode" and at the top of the screen it said "software status: Official" and below that it stated clearly that my phone was LOCKED highlighted in pink and below that it stated S-ON!!

Please help me out guys i just spent a lot of money on this phone and i was excited to buy it and so it is very frustrating that this is happening only a day after buying it! Any advice will be VERY much appreciated!!!!

The phone was bought from http://www.mobilestation.co.nz/index.php/ and it stated i quote (from the receipt i received from them) HTC ONE(M8) 16GB 4G Silver OPEN BOX IN STOCK MINT CONDITION.

Any ideas on how i can solve this guys?

Matt

Don't all reply at once... geez.

Come on guys, someone here must have some kind of idea of why my phone isn't updating and displaying the red exclamation mark?!

Just throw me some ideas at least and several different things that i can try out would be much appreciated!

SOLVED:

I rand HTC New Zealand and after a quick code check in their computer they noticed my phone is originally from Hong Kong and sent to New Zealand as a grey import. Please avoid this website [link removed by moderator] i highly recommend people DO NOT US THIS SITE!

It's unfortunate that you had this problem. In the future, stick to reputable retailers, and do your due diligence with searching for unlocked devices before purchasing.

Welcome to the forums. I'm sorry your question was passed over, sometimes threads can get buried and quickly.

Were you able to get a refund? Phones crossing regions can be tricky in trying to force an update through.

Thanks for the welcome!

Yes i received a refund the other day, pretty stoked about that. I wanted to keep the phone and so i tried to find a way to update it but to no avail. I will make sure i don't buy a parallel import phone next time, not worth the hassle imo.

I'm looking for a replacement now. Will either go with another HTC but maybe the M9, or get a Sony Xperia. Both phones are known for their exceptional build quality, however the Sony is also know for having really good battery life as well, something for which the HTC isn't... Decisions, decisions haha.
