Hi, I don't know if anyone can help me, but I believe I have soft bricked my lg thrive. I have tried everything in my power to fix it and can't figure it out.... about two weeks ago I rooted my android and put a put my first non-stock rom on it. then about a half an hour later I updated the version from 2.2 to 2.3 ..... after the phone updated, it wouldn't boot into the os.... it will only boot into clockwork mod recovery... I have tried a few different things to fix it, I cleared all the caches and user data... perhaps thinking that would do something, next i tried switching roms and still nothing happened. I think I might have deleted the stock rom... then I tried to update to stock-like rom called like "carlosrom" or something... and still nothing happened... and lastly I even tried putting on a stock kdz file(I think it was for the p500 but usable on the thrive/p506) and still nothing happened.... I have absolutely no clue what to do...... I know it's probably fixable because it will still turn on and such but just help on how to fix my new phone. Thanks in advance if anyone out there can help me.

Yeah, you comitted a cardinal sin. Installed a custom rom then tried to install an OTA. Big no-no.

Without knowing what all is on your SD card, I would format it to Fat32 through the PC's card reader, then copy your custom Rom.zip to it. Put it back in your phone. (if you have fotos, now would be a good time to save them to your pc and anything else you have)
Boot to recovery
Wipe User Data.
Wipe Cache Partition
Goto Advanced and Wipe Delvik
Backtrack to the previous screen and select Install zip from SD

See if that brings it back to life.

If not, I'll see what else I can come up with.

Also, check this thread;

[Q] LG P506 AT&T Thrive Help Request - Post Unroot, Attempt @ 2.2.2 update, ~bricked - xda-developers

This user ran into a similar issue (stuck at recovery) If you look into the thread, you'll find where he fixed his device by using some fastboot commands and restoring an image file.

Basically what you did was a big n00b error. Once you run a custom rom, you should NEVER try and install a factory update. It's a sure path to a bricked device. 100% You are fortunate enough that your recovery still runs somewhat, although I wonder just how well.

If the original steps don't get you up and running, then try the second link I gave you. You may have to run a combination of both. And I would suggest posting for some help in xda's forums, as they will have more experienced people with bricked lg thrives.

Hope it gets you going.

hey thanks for helping me out, but im still pretty confused on what to do man..... I have no clue what rom to use

also I installed something called teamwinrecovery.zip... idk I've tried a lot of roms but I have no clue whats even wrong with it

Which model of the Thrive do you have?

If you have a P506, you can check this;

[ROM] LG Thrive P506 Stock FOTA 2.2.2 v11h - xda-developers

One lesson about installing Roms, they MUST be compatible with your device. They are very specific. If you have a P506 Thrive, then you must flash a rom made for the P506. You should be able to find this info under the battery. Should say somewhere.

What's wrong with your device, is that you installed a custom rom, then decided to install an OTA to a higher version android,. This you CANNOT do. My guess, other than a corrupted OS, is that the bootloader also got a little corrupted due to the factory OTA attempting to overwrite what was already there.Clearly, it was a failed mission.

The steps I gave you, are basic steps based on what I know. I also gave you a link, in hopes you could get a little further information.

Your best bet, is to go to xda developers, and post your issue in the Thrive forum, Android Development.Tell them exactly what you did, and what your current status is. I am sure you will get a hard time for doing n00b things, but they will be most helpful and give you exact steps to restore at least to a stock condition, as I am sure several of them did the same thing at one time or another.

The good thing, is that you still have recovery, which means you are not totally bricked.

The other option, is to take it back to the store, and say "hey, I did some stupid things and fubarred my phone, can you help". And ....maybe... they won't charge you an arm and a leg to get it running,

Before you do something, it is best to ask questions first, rather than doing something silly.

Believe me, I feel for you, and want to get your device going. If you tell me exactly which model thrive you have, we may be able to pinpoint a rom for you.

its a p506 lg thrive. One of the issues I'm having is that I will try to install the rom and then it will say its completed, Then when I go to reboot it, it just boots back into the recovery. I tried to follow the directions in the link too. I got the drivers for the phone, and sdk stuff I needed. my windows 7 laptop won't recognize it. so I can't fix my fastboot mode.... My thrive all the same problems as the one in the xda link you posted...

Your best bet, is to post the issue at the XDA forums in the Thrive section. Should be lots of experienced people who had the same issue. Unfortunately, I'm an HTC and Acer person, so I don't know all the ins and outs of the Thrive.
