Hey guys, I'm hoping someone can help me out.

I am considering switching to Verizon, but I need to know how much my monthly cost will be, Here's what I need: a two-line family plan with something like 700 minutes but with unlimited text and a good data allowance. Also, both lines will need Verizon's version of insurance (Total Equipment Protection.)

I have tried numerous times to compute a price online, but either Verizon's website doesn't work or I'm just up the creek. Am I really looking at close to $225 per month for two smartphones (Thunderbolt and Droid X2) with the above details?

Thanks in advance.

700 min Family plan
unlimited texting
5gb data/month

Monthly total: $214

*choose 2gb data/month and reduce above price by $40 giving you a monthly bill of $174

Unsure what a "good amount of data" is for you, so those are the two lowest options as far as the new tiered data goes.

My God that's a lot of money. I think the 2gb plan might work, but even $174 is $50 more than what I'm paying now.

Thanks for the quick response. I guess my online calculations were about right. Geez...

2gb data plan is 30 bucks a month
5gb data plan is 50 bucks a month

if you get the texts and minutes for the 5gb, you are looking at 104 bucks a month

I think you calculated the correct monthly cost for a 2 line Family Plan w/2 smartphones, data plans, and insurance. But don't forget there will ALSO be about $20/month in surcharges and fees that are added on to whatever you choose.

Keep in mind that Verizon is good with discounts. You may go in and inquire as to whether you would be eligible for any discounts.
