HTC/Verizon if by chance you read this forum, please just fix the Tbolt.
I haven't jumped on the bandwagon to complain about each and every 'issue' with this phone. I love everything about it and android. However, I need a phone that works. I need a phone I can rely on to do the main things it was intended to do.
In order of importance it's really three main issues. I know some users say these aren't a problem but there are plenty of us that it clearly needs to be addressed.

1)Loss of signal. First and foremost this is a phone and I need it to behave like one. I'm in a 3G area and I'll lose connection randomly. This isn't because of a week signal but something to do with the radio. To get it 'back' I usually have to reboot, if not twice. This is a major priority because I use the phone to communicate via SMS and email, as it was intended. I can't rely on getting messages or email in a timely manner if I have no signal, so I have to constantly monitor my phone.

2)Random Reboots. This is rather ridiculous. All I've done is purchased the phone and then performed the ota issued. I'll be in the middle of doing something (anything) and it will reboot. This is counterproductive for a smartphone. Of course, it will also reboot while in standby. Sometimes it will go a day or two without rebooting. I got sick of hearing the thunderbolt boot up sound so I had to install the silent boot app....

3)battery life. This is last on the list and I will live with it if you fix the other two. I don't know how these things are optimized but it's random as well. I am a pretty consistent user and my battery life varies from mediocre to down right poor. Sometimes I won't even be using it and it goes from full green to yellow in a few hours. I have chargers everywhere.....

This is just a plea to have a smartphone that operates like a smartphone. I need reliability over bells and whistles. I had to choose a smartphone and I decided on this one based on the HTC reputation. However, I didn't expect to have major, integral functionality issues.
So again, please just fix it.
Thanks

It would be nice to post this in all Verizon an htc official websites and in facebook and tweeter accounts as well. They more likely see it there as well, and motivate others.

Sent from my HTC Thunderbolt.

I have these same issues - as do many. this is really leaving a bad taste in my mouth from Verizon and HTC as to how long it is taking for them to fix this. seems like they are dragging their feet, not giving us a tentative fix date. we are just supposed to hang around and deal with their defective software until they are ready. such a shame

Well said.

Maybe I got lucky but I don't have reboots, signal issues or a horrible battery (however I have 2 :)).

Me neither. I just think Verizon could do a lot better taking care of customers that are having phone problems.

I agree 100% :'( I just want my phone to work like it did pre OTA update.:'(

Well Said - I have taken your work and posted it on my Facebook (gave you credit for it of course) and Tagged HTC and Verizon. We should all do the same if your are having similar complaints.

1)Loss of [data] signal.
2)Random Reboots.
I would have only included these two. Both are very big deals. I personally am not having reboots, but occasionally I lose my data signal for 5+ minutes. Too much.

As for the battery issues... these cannot be addressed "directly". It's more like, it they fix anything the OS is doing to consume battery, the battery life will improve. Example: occasionally Active Sync will get "stuck" and continue to attempt to sync over and over and over continuously. Heating up the phone and draining the battery. Fix the Active sync and you fix the battery. There are also 3rd party apps that can do this too. And VZW/HTC have no control over that. So, personally, I'd just leave the battery thing out of it. But item number 1 and number 2 are really big deals that HTC/VZW do need to fix. Soon.

I agree that #3 isn't as big as the first two (as I said), but I mentioned it because it may be related to the other two. If I had a functional phone that was as powerful as it is, no complaints on the battery.
I'd also like to say that I wouldn't be afraid to root. I was running hybrids on my Blackberry. However, my life if really busy right now and I don't have the time to learn how to root (properly). I like to know all the variables and right now I need a malfunctioning phone more than I need a brick :)

Yeah, I also don't really have time to root and reflash different ROMs & radios and all that and I shouldn't have to. Think of the irony of needing to void one's warranty to get a working phone. Easy for me to say since my ThunderBolt is not having any problems. I finally let Verizon replace mine, even though the problems were minimal. Now I'll wait and see if any of the same problems crop up again.

I could not have said it better myself. Please stop the reboots & signal loss. Bettery battery life would put me over the edge of happiness. But when the fix rolls out please don't break something else.

#1 & #2: A fix is being finalized current and will be on its way.

#3: This will likely never be fixed to my standards. Improving software efficiency can help a little, but lets be honest and face the fact that manufacturers are more concerned with 4G, multi-core processors, 3D, and qHD displays than a simple push for better battery technology. We are driving the Ferrari of smartphones with little more than a one gallon fuel tank.

All so true. Besides, HTC and the others don't make the batteries anyway - I'm sure battery development companies are killing themselves trying come up with a better battery?..and I'm not talking about the aftermarket guys that just duct-tape two batteries together.

The first company to come up with new technology to run these phones for more than a day, will make more money than Apple and Microsoft combined.

Unfortunately, there's just not much more that can be done in terms of battery tech, what with the 'laws' of chemistry being immutable and all.

Thanks, Robrecht

I appreciate this thread. Thanks to all posters.

Today I sent e-mails of protest to HTC and Verizon over the debacle known as the last OTA. What I sent them won't impact anything or anyone, but I had to vent. I bought the phone on its day of release, excited by what I had heard and read about HTC (the TBolt is my first-ever smart phone). For a while, things were great, but then came the OTA, and into hell I and my phone descended.

What frosts me the most about this situation are not the reboots, the GPS signal issues, or the limited battery life -- all very valid concerns -- but rather the evident disregard HTC and Verizon have shown to customers affected by those issues. I recall a Tweeter posting from HTC (I think it was from them) that said something to the effect of, "We're sure you'd like to get rid of those annoying reboots, but at the moment we don't have a date in mind for a fix." That was it!

I don't know whether that message actually came from HTC, but if it did, what amazing insensitivity. No apology. No sympathy. No...anything. At least they could have said, "We obviously screwed up in the last OTA, and as a result many of our customers are experiencing serious operational issues with their Thunderbolts. We apologize for our error and pledge that we will issue a fix as soon as possible. What's more, we will post regular updates as to our progress toward that outcome."

I know, no software company is ever going to offer such a mea culpa, or provide such progress reports, but in this case, I think it would be appropriate...and helpful to their reputations with customers. Some of us have been so dramatically affected by the OTA, that we shouldn't have to run some kind of forensic process on rumors or look for give-aways on apparently-Photoshopped fake Verizon announcements. HTC and Verizon should be transparent about their mistakes and their methods of correcting them.

Thanks for receiving my vent.
