Call it a spin or not...you're not paying for 4G...so we should debate on this rather than getting anywhere trying to debate that we don't live in a 4G area so we shouldn't be charged!

If you buy the Sprint 4G EVO, you have to pay this $10 charge each month. This is specific to the device. It's not related to whether you are using 3G or 4G. It is required if you have the phone.

Because the phone has a faster processor, a huge 4.3 inch screen and an 8 megapixel camcorder/camera, we expect you will be using a lot more data than you would with our other devices. These features will give you capabilities that have previously never been available on a wireless device and we think they provide a premium experience. (Remember, this is the world's first 3G/4G Android phone.)

More Detail on the Sprint EVO 4G $10/Month Premium Data Charge - John Taylor's posterous

i have absolutely no problem with charging 10 extra for 4g, i do have a huge problem with charging 10 dollars for absolutely nothing extra. all they need to do is make this optional and they wouldnt hemorrhage any potential buyers.

Sprint went from luring new customers with the EVO to losing it's current customers with this $10 TAX. WOW what a turn of events, the iphone fanboys are having a field day with this bend over TAX!

Yap and I'll be one of them I will get the Evo on the 4th and when I get my bill will call sprint to cancel my account. Hey time to pick up an iphone.

I don't see how they can justify the $10 charge if they are still going to sell the phone in non-4G areas like mine. What are they going to say to potential new customers? Yes, the phone IS nice... but you gotta pay $10 over the regular plan for the 4G... But we don't have 4G and its nicer than the Hero and Moment... Too Bad?
If 4G were more vast today, I could see the charge. While the person might not have it in their city, most likely they would travel somewhere that had it, or maybe have it at work, but not at home. That makes sense. But considering there are so few places with 4G, the charge isn't justified.
Over a 2-year contract, you're paying $240 before taxes to use the phone... which negates the nice $199.99 price tag.

Of course I want it to be the same or cheaper, but I'm realistic. It's still cheaper than at&t, which I also have and love.

Sprint is bleeding. They've been giving the farm away and still losing customers. Sprint is finally realizing they need to start turning up profits especially with higher arpu. If you don't like it, don't get it. Wait for another non 4g android device to come.

I'm sure when potential customers walk in stores to purchase they will enjoy Rep explaining that extra $10.00 charge lol
Total fail lots of iphones will be sold

At&t's iPhone = $30 extra per month
Verizon's Incredible = $30 extra per month
Tmobile's HD2 = $30 extra per month
Sprint's Evo = $10 extra per month

hmmm....whats wrong with this picture....stop crying we are getting a great deal!

I guess Sprints reps can use that line on new customers
Or they can say were charging 10.00 extra on device because its 4G capable but you cant use function its not available in your area and device is just about equal to incredible in speed but OS will be out dated in a couple months so basically were ripping you off on device , Don't cry that's how Sprint works.

At&t's iPhone = $30 extra per month addition to their $40 plan
Verizon's Incredible = $30 extra per month addition to their $40 plan
Tmobile's HD2 = $30 extra per month addition to their $40 plan
Sprint's Evo = $10 extra per month addition to their $70 plan

Thats the difference, in the $70 plan you are already paying for unlimited web. Stupid people. Stop deffending sprint and realize they are just trying to earn a quick buck and rip us off.

Lets compare apples 2 apples

sprint's $70 includes unlimited min and txt + $10 for web = $80
Verizon's $70 includes unlimited min + $20 for txt + $30 for web = $120
At&t's $70 includes unlimited min + $20 for txt + $30 for web = $120
Tmobile's $60 includes unlimited min +$10 for txt + $30 for web =$100

.....still a deal....yes they are trying to earn a quick buck.....but they are a business and what business will not try to bring in extra revenue whenever there is a opportunity ?

let me revise cause your info is WRONG:

sprint's $70 includes 450 min and txt + $10 for web = $80
Verizon's $40 includes 500 min + $20 for txt + $30 for web = $90
At&t's $40 includes 500 min + $20 for txt + $30 for web = $90
Tmobile's $40 includes 500 min +$10 for txt + $30 for web =$80

Just because you have unlimited mobile to mobile doesn't mean its unlimited minutes, all the companies have mobile to mobile its just for their own network where sprint covers all networks. If it were unlimited why was my sprint bill $15 more this month for extra minutes.

I dont mind since I am in a 4G city. It definitely comes out to be a better plan than I had on the iPhone and it is 4G so cant complain. AT&T wont let me replace my iPhone (dropped it in a cab, I know sigh) at a subsidized price which is why I am making the jump.

EVO was their come back big splash get them back in the game take back the farm.
Every forum Ive looked at today many of those that were leaving ATT & Verizon for EVO are going to take pass because of extra charge which isn't good news for Sprint..total step backwards.
Same goes for current customers that would be adding 2nd / 3rd etc lines extending contracts.
Lots of negative is coming from their unexpected move.
Sprint will lose big time bad decision on their part getting back in the game..especially so close to iphone launch.

Im Sprint loyal man..want them to win but this is bad stuff going on

totally ture. I know 2 iphone users who couldn't wait for the evo and 1 sero user who wanted to change his plan for the evo and the 2 iphone users are no longer interested and are getting 4th gen iphones instead because their bill with ATT is already $80 a month cause they have a choice not to get all the options and the sero user will not get the evo and is also now waiting to see of possible getting the 4th gen iphone instead.

I think if people were really going to switch they still would. Do I wish they weren't going to charge the extra $10....sure....

I don't think they will cause a big reason why allot of people don't mind switching to sprint is the price and with this increase it makes it allot closer to the other carriers, well I mean look at me I'm with sprint and already pre-orded the Evo but will probably return it within 30 days and pickup the iphone which was never even on my mind before.

Those of you making the excuse that those of us upset by the $10 fee are simply upset because we can't afford it couldn't be more wrong. First off I can afford several of these phones including the BS premium data fee and the hotspot fee. My issue is I am forced to pay an extra $10 a month and I am not getting an extra $10 in service. My area does not have 4g, and it is not on the list of areas to get it anytime soon. The fee is not optional, it is required if you have the Evo, and has been documented as such in this thread and multiple others. Please read before you post. This is not about not being able to afford it, but the principle of do we let Sprint or any other phone carrier charge extra fees just because they feel they can. I don't believe so, and Sprint has nothing more than some nonsensical marketing BS reason as to why they are charging this extra money. I was really excited about this phone, and now not so much. I will be researching other carriers and their phones to see where I will go next when my contract expires on June 20.

Now let me tell you how Sprint differs. I use about 6,000 per month. Only 77 of those (last month) were to home phones. You know what this means? If Sprint didin't have that mobile to mobile (any mobile) plan, I would be paying $100 per month, instead of saving $30 and going with the $70 plan. And actually, here are the ACTUAL calculations:

Sprint $70 (80 for Evo) includes 450 analog phone minutes + unlimited cell phone minutes + unlimited messaging + unlimited web + unlimited GPS navigation + unlimited SPrint TV + unlimited NFL Live + unlimited Nascar + unlimited Sprint music. (on Evo its also +video chat + youtube HQ)

Now let me tell you the equivalent on the other plans:
Verizon's unlimited plan (because the 70 plan for Sprint is pretty much unlimited) is $120 for unlimited minutes, messaging and web. Then, add $10 for navigation + $10 for the little Vcast tv thingy.

ATT? Same as above.
T-Mobile?
Their unlimited plan is at $100. But does not include the extras, which are also $10 a piece. For a much smaller 3G network. So $120

So we are looking at $140 PLUS TAX for ONE line per month. I have two lines on Sprint... unlimited... and I pay $140. For two lines.

THAT is the equivalent plan. Noone in their right mind would compare Verizon's littel 450 min plan with Sprints 450 minute plan because they are two different monsters. Sprint is giving you an unlimited experience plus more.

So Verizon and ATT are $140 for equivalent. T-Mobile is $120 for equivalent. Sprint? $70 or $80 with Evo. I will stick with sprint.

I sell ALL of these companies. I work at a franchise radioshack. The company does not sell Verizon but some stores do. I can tell you outright that Sprint has the best value BY FAR. There's no justifying it.
