Poll - Will You Pay the $600 Best Buy Price for the HTC Flyer?

What reason do you want HC??

With the scribe and Sense, honeycomb at this point offers nothing more than what it already has comparably

LowFire, I agree Honeycomb was not a compelling issue, but the scribe technology was, even though we have not seen it in real life. I have cancelled my pre-order with the price tag surpassing $600 and will wait and see if the technology is worth the hefty price once they are available in stores for testing or the reviews show the value. I find it interesting that HTC keeps saying that the stylus is extra when purchased from Best Buy and wonder if there will be other options down the road. I will look forward to your reviews.

Lol you're joking right? There are tons of articles out there on this topic but bottom lin Honeycomb is designed for larger screens Ecclair, Froyo and Gingerbread aren't. Go into a verizon store or a best buy mobile and play with the xoom. Then try the Galaxy Tab. World of difference.

Have played with a Xoom and several non-Honeycomb tablets; not seeing this "world" you're referring to. Sure, the new holographic UI in Honeycomb looks nifty, but that's about it. I'm sure just dumping pure Froyo/Gingerbread onto a tablet looks bad, but no tablet maker is doing that -- every one of them is building their own UI on top, and that gives them plenty of opportunity to tweak for the larger screen. Plus with Honeycomb, you get to have fun playing with the lack of SD card support and the obnoxious Media Transfer Protocol for USB file transfers.

I look forwrd to it as well, but I had to cancel mine as well since I won't know if I will be here or in another country :(

And VZWRocks, aong with reasons stated above, I also said AT THIS POINT it is COMPARABLE

HTC already said HC is coming, and I haven't seen where they don't deliver on their promise on things like that

MEH,I have decided to play the HTC/BB game having canceled and resubmitting my order moving me down the shipping list and hopefully allowing others to test the technology before I receive/open the box. Unfortunately the market created by the public embrace of the overpriced I pad has created an overpriced market. We are a niche group and may not reach the market share that HTC/BB expects, allowing us to feel really stupid if the marketing fails and the pricing scheme collapse. If I have chosen to buy into a false technology then I have a business expense which serves as an e-mail, internet, e-reader appliance, but without the added expense of a digital stylus, as I will not buy it without it proven. We are as the early e-reader adopters, buying into technology that will reach an acceptable pricing level though supplier competition over a period of time. I am not happy, but at least I will have company, in you.

Ahhhh, S Prime, I am laughing (so as not to cry); the tech industry depends on users such as you and me . . . :(

Hummingbirdhill, Thanks for subtlety telling me how stupid I am, your humor is well received. But, please realize, I do plan to wait on you to open your box first.

Well, I must admit that the Flyer is the sole device about which I am plumb silly right now. My Inspire 4G and I bonded immediately and I cannot figure the attraction of the Flyer to me---except I expect it to be a big Inspire with the smooooth Sense UI that will enable me to teach away from my puters. The main thing for which the Flyer has no capability (for my use) is text messaging so I will need to keep my Inspire too--not a difficult thing to do . . .

Yo, and I'll be most happy to open my box first for you; you don't seem to be stupid---just very Sensible . . . ;)

Your feet will be held to the fire.:D

I have enjoyed the back and forth of this thread...I, too, have preordered a Flyer and plan to purchase a stylus and case as soon as I pick up my device.

As a consultative salesperson, I will use the tablet to record my appointments and meetings as well as make notes that will sync together. I will also use the scribe capability to capture my customer's signatures for orders and contracts.

I have held off for almost a year after seeing the iPad and Galaxy Tab, but neither had the capabilities for which I was looking.

Thank you for your friendly banter...I look forward to being one of the first in Texas to pick this up.

TxGoatHead, We count you in the "Open First" group. You are charged with reporting to the forum on receiving your flyer and protecting the unopened box for the rest of us. I am not keeping count that that makes at least two box openers ahead of me.:)

Ha! TxGoatHead, welcome to the Association of Early Openers . . .

Ouch; that could be worse than being in hot water!

I love what I just saw:
HTC's working on a 10-inch LTE tablet for AT&T

If you go look, be certain to click the photo and see the BIG pic . . . The pen appears to be the same as the one we may not see in our Flyer boxes. If this weren't 3G, I'd most likely be cancelling my Flyer pre-order NOW.

Hmmm... the tablet in the picture with the pen looks suspiciously small relative to the pen and the dude's thumb. I can't imagine that being the 10-incher. It also doesn't look anything like the picture embedded in the article, the one that has the AT&T logo on it and the HTC logo in a corner. The article does say HTC Scribe is on-board, though, so I guess regardless of whether the photo with the pen is showing the 10-incher or not, there's going to be a 10-inch, Scribe-enabled, LTE HTC tablet somewhere in the future.

Good link, S Prime! I especially noticed this statement:
The HTC Flyer and Scribe digital pen are built to be used together.

And I learned that the Scribe pen is used as the audio recorder. :) I had wondered how a voice recording could be linked to notes written at the same time. Intriguing for sure!

I have been hoping to locate a leather folio-styled case for the Flyer (if I retain my pre-order and then keep the device after receipt), and I see just that in blue leather on this link! :) It's called a genuine journal case and it's dark blue leather . . . WOW!

From another perspective, the other compatible stylus is a third of the cost of the digital scribe pen and as you noted the scribe had an audio recording feature and from what I have seen an erase feature, both of which are controlled by the buttons on the scribe. I know it is all conjecture at this point but it you could have all of the scribe features beyond erase and voice record which would you choose? Now the big factor, does palm rejection work with both or it is exclusive to the scribe? I invite conjecture or opinion. :D

The capacitive stylus looks familiar... it's the "official HTC" capacitive stylus for the HD2 that they released over a year ago. I imagine that like most capacitive styli, it won't actually have any ability to tap into the N-Trig digitizer layer in the screen; it'll just mimic the electromagnetic capacitance of the human finger and act as a replacement for finger input.

Okay, so how many times does BB need to charge my credit card for the Flyer pre-order? The first pending charge was 5/3 and the second was this morning . . . Will BB "renew" the pending charge weekly till the item ships? Or do you think today's charge is the "real thing" and that the Flyer will ship sometime today? (I've never paid much attention to the pending charge thingy but I don't recall ever being pendingly charged twice for one order.)

From what I understand, pending means that they have verified that you have the funds and the amount is reserved from your available credit, but when not used for a period of time, based on your card's policy it is removed. When the item ships the status changes from pending to charged. So my guess is that Best Buy is keeping their fingers in your cookie jar. Mine disappeared and reappeared as well and when I cancelled and reordered I showed two pending charges, but now one of those has cleared out.
