Poor battery life - Kernel os sucking battery

Well folks, some update on mine. UPS today delivered my device back to me. Concerning to the delivery note they couldn't reproduce the described error. But what I think is that they wiped the complete ROM and did a clean flash of the firmware. That is ok for me because I think that something went wrong during the update and that produced the battery drain.

The first look is positive for me. It drains much less than before. While the device was on standby in my pocket (3G) for about 2.5 to 3 hours the battery remained on 65%. No drain or even a drop of percentage. Hopefully that will stay this way. I will report my experience with the battery at the next weekend.

I wish all of you and your families only the best for 2015 :)

Best regards from Germany,
Stefan

Mine did something really weird last night, it was fully charged and I turned it off like I do every night and when I turned it on this morning it was at 92 percent. Usually it will be 98 or 99 after it boots. Also during the day it will discharge slowly until it hits 50 percent and then it discharges twice as fast. Something updated that's chomping power.

Update from me, took the phone to verizon. They put it in airplane mode and then did a battery test. It drained a few percent in 10 minutes, to which they estimated it would take 10 hours to fully drain, which they said was on par with the phone's 12 hour standby spec. I went to HTC's site to get the specs, and low and behold, the official standby time is like 40 hours. Showed it to the rep, and he ordered me a replacement right there. I'll let you all know when I get it, but I'm thinking since it seems like a software issue, I don't know if a new phone will help it.

Hi everyone,

The weekend was good on mine. The good battery life i've reported in my last post got stuck after i fully configured my device as I need it. It was poor again with a high usage of Kernel and System. After I noticed that, I did a few steps backward.

I'm a user of Play Music All Access. I figured out, that the Play Music app has taken a large amount of used resources (used the developer menu, submenu process stats) compared to the other apps / processes. The thing I only did with the Play Music app after i received the phone back from HTC, was to open the app and connect the app with my Google account. I didn't hear any music or downloaded songs. Just opened the app.
I deactivated the app in the app menu (also cleared the app data and cache), charged the phone to 100% and restarted it with charger connected.

What shall I say: I've disconnected the phone on Saturday, 10:30 am. Now, almost two and a half days after disconnecting (German time 13:14 p.m.), I still have 47% of battery left with a moderate use and battery saving mode switched on (the performance with activated battery saver is still very high). Android System and Kernel are around 7-8% of battery usage. I'm impressed :)

Maybe, the suggestion with Play Music app is helpful for others. I don't know if it is necessary to have a All Access subscription or to only use the app.

I now made the switch to Spotify. Nice benefit: They had a promo here in Germany: Three months Premium access for €9,99...

Interesting. I checked gsam and it shows Google Music using literally nothing. But when I go to the system stats like you said, it seems to be running all the time. So I disabled the app this morning, and my battery life seems to be a bit better. But the Android System and Kernel are still using almost 40% of the battery.

Sitlet, I had tried out that simcity app, too, and the thing drained my battery quick. I have a galaxy S5, almost brand new, and the battery was great, then I downloaded that one app (on that particular day it was the only thing I installed). Wake up at 6:30am, battery 100%, by 8am, 81%, then by noon down to 34%.
I did some minor troubleshooting for a couple days without any luck, then, uninstalled simcity. Immediately the battery life came back. Today its still at 86% around 6pm.

I usually do my best to not install more than one new app every few days (unless it is something I'm already familiar with). I've seen this happen a few times. If my battery starts having ****ty life, I can usually fix it by uninstalling the last thing I installed. Good luck.

Also, I've noticed the list of apps using the battery in the settings screen is not necessarily accurate, SimCity did NOT show up there with any high numbers, but uninstalling that app sure fixed the issue.

i suggest you to use *#0228#
dial that, and after that presa the button under screen, then wait screen turn on by itself.
do that repeatly unil the battery percent make maximun chang, and stop this cycle when the battery showes lowest(minimim) percent on screen.
and use greenify and servicely and amplify app.
this 3 app,is the best battery management i guess.
actually i still looking for any solution for battery fats drain every day for my phon to.but until now, these are the best ways i found.
