Poor call quality on Verizon G2

made a few more calls via tmo wifi calling. both times with the digitization of their voice. i think i come off fine to them.

And if it is based on the G2, there's a good chance you'll still have a small % of users complaining about the noise. I suspect your search will then continue again. ;)

If that's the case, then you're right. The most important feature of a cell phone, to me, is that it works very good as a phone. Everything else is just something that I could have used a larger/dedicated device for that I just choose to use the phone for in an instance for convenience. Like I had said, after dealing with the buzzing noise in the 4S, I won't take a chance if even a small amount of users are complaining specifically of a random, or constant, buzzing/screeching in the earpiece. It's enough to drive you crazy.

To me this is more then some random bug. Call quality should be the #1 most important part of a phone. I love everything else about this phone but if when I get home from this business trip it is still doing it I will have to return it.. Its a shame because the the 'tablet' portion of the device is perfect.

My call quality has been excellent thus far(fingers crossed). As a matter of fact, right now I am at a cafe doing some work and I am sitting under the music loudspeaker. I have been on the phone for several calls, with the music blaring above me, and I have asked everyone if they can hear me okay, because I can barely hear myself, and they all said they hear what appears to be ambient people noise in the background. But none of them hear the music!!! So, I called my wife and experimented with a couple BT headsets that I carry in my bag, and a wired headset. She said they all sounded crappy in comparison. And I said, "Color me impressed, that's some damn good noise canceling and call quality."

I've had this EXACT issue since day 1 of owning my VZW G2. 8 out of 10 calls sound horrible as if I have terrible reception but i have 4 or 5 bars and 4g when on the call. Tech support made me switch out my sim card, updated my PRL list and remove me from their "switch" and recreated my switch profile. Im still getting the call quality issues so today im exchanging my phone =(

You're exchanging for another G2 or a different phone? As I said I've gone through 3, they all do the same (with all new SIM cards that come with them) in the same way. Let us know if the exchanged one works.

Im replacing it with another G2 and another Sim card. I gotta try something before its too late. Ill let everyone know if its any better.

I gave up after 2 tries. The store manager offered to let me exchange it for a third time, but I decided not to risk it and went with a Droid Maxx instead. I would have preferred to have the G2, I loved everything else about it, but I need a phone with decent call quality.

OK so with the newest G2 I got, the problem seem to be gone! I kept my same Sim card since i thought it might be the ear piece or a radio issue, but the problem seems to be gone =-D
I also installed the latest OTA. not sure if that helped.

If you don't mind I am going to wait a day or two to see if you come back with a different answer. Sometimes I can't reproduce it for a while. My 14 days are almost up and don't think I can risk going for a 4th. I might end up with an overheater again too. :(

By the way the OTA didn't fix it for me.

I sorry I didn't get back earlier but after having my 2nd G2 for 2 days it started again. WTF LG? Im not sure if its radio, sim card, or ear piece related but its driving me insane. Tomorrow being my 14th day Im not sure whether to exchange it for another or get the droid maxx.

WHat do you guys think?

I had Verizon G2 before update had reception issues. Did update help reception? I have Maxx great reception and battery but rest of phone is mediocre. I have about a week left to switchback.

Had reception issues before and after update.

I have never called vzw on any issue on any phone, even some that required ota's to fix, in which a vzw rep admitted there is a problem... until there is a fix for the problem. They don't want to lose the restocking fee and hope to string you along until it is too late to return the phone.

I made a mistake and waited past my 14 day return period even though I've been getting the digital screeching since day 1. Verizon says they've never heard of anyone else with this issue (the guy that sits right next to me at work has the same issue) and even called LG who also denies they've heard of anyone else with this issue. They claim it's probably a network issue on their end and want to investigate for 5 days. After that time, if they can't fix it, they'll offer me a refurb of ANOTHER DEVICE since they don't have any refurb G2s in stock yet since it's so new.

Verizon is the absolute worst company in the world. I'm really close to throwing this thing in the trash and buying a Nexus 5 and signing up for Straight Talk.

I feel your pain except I did return mine. It's amazing they told you they know no one else with the issue when I have talked to a tier 2 support person by phone and email many times about it and returned 3 phones over it. And she told me same story, no one else complained about it after checking call logs. Either they hide the truth or their complaint tracking system is not adequate to properly log and categorize phone problems that people have or their search doesn't get hits for whatever reason. Even though they say they track reported problems it feels like reasons for returns in stores and tech support complaints get dropped into a black hole bucket. I wouldn't be surprised if my returned phones go into the refurbished inventory (except maybe if they notice the one that overheated also).

So you had problems with the phone from day one but didn't return it in the 14 day period you have to return it and that is somehow Verizon's fault?

So who is saying they will give you a refurb different phone? Verizon or LG? It is hard to tell by the way you wrote that. If the phone isn't working right they (Verizon) has to replace it with the same phone.

I have had the phone since release date with no problem.

Wrong. If verizon doesn't have refurb stock of the phone under warranty they will only give you a "like" device.
