Poor Reception

i have the best service i have ever had at work. the building is a very old brick/concrete type where everyone has crappy signal. not me! even though i have about 2-3 bars, my evo is still very fast. this has me super happy cuz i used to go to the stairwell to do anything on my G1.

Same here (both Honolulu and Mililani). I turned off my 4G radio once I realized that the speed differences are negligible -- both around 1 mbps. My boss gets 2 mbps on VZW 3G and another guy gets 3 mbps on AT&T HSPA.

"Dear Sprint/Clear,

Did you forget to turn on 4G? It's a joke. GG.

- Hawaii"

Anyone getting better mbps in Honolulu? Almost a month later and no improvement on the speed for me.

I have the airave either that or i get one bar to none inside the house. Sprint charges 4.99 and up a month to use my Fios internet i already pay for. Here in Socal LA/OC border Wimax is in certain areas like buena park, long beach town center, and parts of Anaheim.

Same here in San Fernando Valey. I just don't have airave. However, I have Verizon tower half a mile from my house. Guess on what service I am forcing my Evo to work?

my 3G has been sketchy for a few weeks. I would get awesome 3G even in poor areas when I first got the phone.
Now I on the norm see it struggle for 300-400kbs. Sometimes I will get to 700-800, but its far and few between now.

I thought it was the antenna updates so I flashed back to the originals and saw a slight change, but still inconsistant. Not sure what the issue is.
Not sure if speedtests are even accurate sometimes.
I use the installed speedtest app from the market.

In Dallas...."What 4g coverage?"

I am in Dallas as well, and on can concur. 4G in Dallas is super spotty at best. I told a co worker the map looks like someone hung it on a wall and shot paintballs at it.

Prior to purchase of my EVO I checked out the Sprint coverage for 4G in my area.

Sprint - Nationwide Coverage

I was pretty excited by what I found, with not only coverage in my area but I should be able to get a signal in a building as well.

Yeah, not so much. I can't even sniff a 4G signal walking around outside of my home, much less inside.
I was able to get 4G in Roanoke TX today so I know it works.

I has a sad.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Yes. Map shows my office in Dallas as having 4G. But i have to go outside just to get 1 bar on a good day.
The sad thing is, its the phone. We have a Clear Modem using the same network. The Clear modem shows half signal strength in the server room.
So my EVO outside is lucky to get a bar, but a modem inside gets 3 out of 5 bars, and sometiems 4 out of 5 bars. The system and network are not to blame on this. Well not fully to blame. The 4G Network is still in its early stages.
