I recently switched to the S9 (Unlocked US model on AT&T) from a S5 Mini and immediately noticed a significant drop in cell reception.
The rep at the ATT Store told me that the amount of "bars of signal" doesn't matter as long as I'm on LTE. Is that true?
At some locations the LTE icon at the top only comes on if I have Wi-Fi turned off and mobile date turned on. Why is that?
When I was using the S5 mini I've never had a problem with poor reception unless I'm out in the middle of nowhere. Now with the S9 I'm missing calls and texts. My phone wouldn't ring or the text tone wouldn't alert me but show I had missed calls and have a text in my inbox.
I've read that poor reception could be caused by a bad SIM card. My S5 Mini uses a micro SIM so I ordered an adapter so I can put the nano SIM from the S9 into the S5 to see if the sim is the problem.
I've read that resetting the network connections could help. I tried that but it didn't.
I've read changing the "network mode" could solve the problem but I don't have that menu option at all.
I downloaded the Network Signal Info app on both phones.
S9 shows the dBm anywhere from -100 to -117. Signal bars fluctuates from 0 to 2.
Under the Cell Location screen it doesn't show the blue line that connects to a cell tower. It did the first day that I tried this app but the line was connecting to a tower that is far far away. I also get a message that says "Cell has wrong values or is not in database."
S5 shows the dBm around -87 with full signal bars. Cell location shows it's connecting to a tower that is just a few miles away. The SIM in the S5 isn't even activated.
I've only made 3 calls and it hasn't dropped any of them but they were also pretty short. Longest one was just over 5 minutes.
Now I'm just waiting for the SIM adapter to come in to test but before that does anyone have any insight about this problem?
