Poor use of space on home screen

I am used to my old Nexus 4, which I really liked. To be honest I am a little bit disappointed with the S5. The screen is way too sensitive and keeps dialing, texting etc. in my pocket. This never happened with my Nexus 4.

Anyway, I would like to have more space on my home screen. Do you know how to turn off the dots that show the various home screens? Also, the clock and weather app take up half the screen! Really unnecessary. Any recommendations for smaller versions?

Change the Launcher to Nova or ADW this will give every thing back
