Hi. I am an iOS convert to Samsung s8 pand have found android great for the most part. But, my only hold up is regarding app notifictions. Some of the notifications do not appear on my unlocked screen. I can see them in the banner draw at the top. Do I have to install a specific app. I assumed app alerts would work like in iOS with no superfluous aps. Everything is turned on, I have turned priority on, do not disturb switched off. Pardon my ignorance, but it is driving me nuts.
I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Notifications do not naively pop up in the middle of the screen like they do on iOS. That's a feature of Android.

Sorry I misread. Unlocked screen.

Yes. Notifications on Android do not pop up in the middle of the screen. The banners at the top is what you get. To be honest a lot of people hate the banners. Android is designed for multitasking. It knows that you might be doing something else so it shows the notification in a less obtrusive way compared to iOS.

I seem to recall using alauncher that put notification on its own page. Seemed the most iOS like.

Thanks. I don't mind the notifications appearing at the top of the screen. My query is regarding how some don't show at all anywhere on the screen. Is there any way I can have them all show?

I would gb into notifations settings and make sure those apps are sflicked on

Depends on what apps these are. The banners are supposed to show up when the app flags its notifications at a certain priority level. Some app devs didn't bother doing so.

There are two ways to get around this. One is usiny a headsup app that creates its own heads up banner for specific apps. Back in older Android versions I used Floatify.

The second is to change the priority level of the app notification on a per app basis. You will need system ui tuner (app on play store since it's disabled on Samsungs) and you need a PC with ADB installed to activate the system ui app permissions. Then you can change priority level on a per app basis in a roundabout way.

actually, after re-reading your original post, you said that you have priority notifications on. This might be your issue. Priority notifications are designed to mute all notifications except for whitelisted apps, or starred contacts. For example, I I have priority set to turn on overnight for certain contacts. If my parents call at 2am, it's probably something important and I want it to wake me up. If I get a facebook notification, not so much.

If you want every notification visibile, priority notification mode must be off

This is definitely it
