Does anyone's portable hotspot work with 4g? If i have 4g turned on it disconnects when I enable the hotspot and the hotspot won't work at all until I disable it.

If i go into the settings and look at the 4g status it just keeps trying to connect over and over.

Are Sprint/Google screwing us here?

This is a pretty big deal for me. Can we have more people test?

Considering that sprint normally charges for the tethering feature. And that Google didn't introduce this with a 4g tethering feature. Your surprised?

Root the phone, download wireless tether for root users and enjoy your 4g tether speeds.

So I installed the experimental build of wireless tether "wifi tether"

It connects and works on 4g in ad-hoc mode but not in infrastructure mode.

Ad-hoc mode is so homeless. We need fix!

This been an issue since june 04 2010 when the evo dropped

That's pretty disappointing to hear. Added to my list of crap I don't like, got 28 days left to decide if I don't like it enough, thing is most of my complaints are android related, and there's not a whole lot of choice on Sprint besides Android at the moment...

I'm wondering if maybe google will take a look at this problem now that they're making tethering available.

Okay, am I missing something, my Wi-fi hotspot started up with no problem and sprint doesn't detect it. I have 3 people at my office connect their ipod touches for 2 days and then check my sprint bill online 2 days later and nothing showed up.

Its not a problem its the real deal. Sprint hotspots does work on the ns. Its under the wireless setting.

Evo 4G --> Nexus S 4G

not to be rude but are you paying the 29.99 for the feature? because if that SOC isnt added onto your account your phones internet will cease as soon as you try to power up the sprint hotspot feature. stop the hotspot feature and update your data profile. home>menu>settings>update profile

I am actually paying for the hotspot feature (newbie here, but learning fast). I also haven't been able to get this working with 4g...3g is fine. Sprint customer care told me on the phone that the hotspot feature should work at 4g speeds. Also talked to someone in person at one of their local service centers and he was speculating that 4g hotspot may not work since none of their other phones actually do; they only work at 3g. Anyone confused yet?

This could also be related to the other problem everyone is having with signal quality. I'm hoping this is the case.

Huh?

I had an evo 4g since launch. I also paid the monthly hotspot fee since launch. 4g DID work over wifi tether, and was confirmed with download speed tests.

On the Nexus S 4g I just got, 4g tether does not work. It defaults back to 3G tether, and the download speeds prove it. On the upside, I was able to save myself $30 a month by canceling the tether feature. I agree though that 4g tether should work

So here's a related question. If the hotspot feature really doesn't work @ 4G, and I call Sprint to have them remove the $29.99 monthly charge, is that going to require me taking my phone to one of their service centers? I really don't want those people touching my phone!

After two calls to tech support and two visits to Sprint stores I have been advised that this is a "known problem" and they are working on a fix which should come out in two months.
