Portfolio Case for Xoom Suck?

I know that we shouldn't speak it's name, but the apple portfolio case for the iPad was perfect. I know the Xoom has more ports and a camera, but there needs to be a middle ground.

I have the case you are all talking about and am not a fan either, but I want addition screen protection until my invisishield shows up. I don't like the way it clasps shut.

I am also not happy with the portfolio case, primarily because when it was open, it was one big handful of plastic that made typing difficult. I bought the silicone cover for the back, and found an iPad bag for $25 that fits perfectly. Portfolio case is going back to VZW today.

I agree with the op. This case has issues. Lack of opening at the bottom for the charger is a huge oversight, unfortunately its the only case available right now that offers good protection. Hopefully something better will come along while I can still return this one. If not I'll modify like others are doing.

i actually kind of like the portfolio case. It holds it securely, covers the screen when I'm not using it, and allows me to use it at different angles.

Couldn't agree with you more! My Verizon store had their demo xoom in this case and when i saw it had to have it!!! Lol

Seems fine to me. It is great protecion, and are you guys seriously that worried about scuffs on the sides? The only sensible concern listed here is that it has to be removed to charge it, though that isn't exactly correct unless you need to put it on a dock since you can open the front and charge it fine without removing it from the case.

I think it is hillariou that people get worked up over scuffs on the side, which you cannot even see when in the case that you worried about scuffing the sides. The point is to protect your device, and if you intend to leave the protection on there then it doesn't matter if there are marks.

I care about my devices and the resale value. You might not mind scratching the hell out of your 800 dollar Xoom...but I do.

If you really care about resale value, don't buy bleeding edge tech the first week of release. In 6 months its worthless compared to what you paid anyway.

I've never had a problem reselling the countless gadgets that I have puchased over the years and getting a nice return on it. And most of us early adopters will have something new in LESS than 6 months. Its just how it is.

When I have a marked up, scratched, dinged product it obviously doesn't get a high return. It also reflects on how I take care of my gadgets.

Actually I love the portfolio case, especially given that it doubles as a stand at various angles. My biggest complaint is that the dock doesn't hold the Xoom at the same angle as my case.

I bought the case and use it for the following:

  • I use it as a stand which it works really well for. This is the main reason I bought the case and it works well for this.
  • I put the Xoom in the case if I am taking it with me someplace and will be putting it in a bag with other stuff that could potentially scratch or scuff the Xoom. The case offers good protection bu those tabs have to go! I think I am going to take a dremel to the tabs

Another thing I don't like about the case is, the way it stands up those little ridges the Xoom fits into are too slippery. They're ok if you're just watching a video but if you touch the screen at all, the Xoom slips right down happens more with the low angle setting than with the other one. I'm thinking of maybe putting a small strip of grip tape on the case to keep it from slipping

cut the lil tabs off and you'll love it more-

keep the foam part clean and free of debris so it don't scratch your glass-

I notie the scratches that the case put on the lower right side of the Xoom. That will continuse to be an irritant. However, if I dropped it, I know it will be protected.

Don't push so friggin hard on the screen! I typed a four-paged paper on my Xoom in the case and had no problems at either one of the notches.

So what's the verdict here?

I have the gel case (actually an after market one), the speaker dock, I'm getting a 10" carry case, the keyboard comes today and I bought a tablet stand that will fold up and fit in the case.

If you remove the tabs does the case still hold the Xoom well? Can anyone post some pics of this?
