Are you able to use any of the portrait mode features besides blurring? Like studio, high-key mono, or backdrop?

Isn't that just a forced reset? If I understand correctly, it's no different from a normal reset, unless the phone is stuck and won't do a normal reset, in which case the forced reset gets it unstuck.I hit the power button and volume down button simultaneously. Let the screen go dark, let go of buttons, and I let the phone reboot.

yeh you are right but that is what Samsung told me to do so I did it. As I expected it did not work. Anyway I just wiped my cache partition to see if that helps. Do you think it might?
Yeah that feature became available on One UI 3.1Wiping cache partition did not work but after some trial and error I think the new video call effects on the S21 series may be the culprit. That might explain why only the S21 series is effected as that is the only phone to receive that feature I believe. I turned it off and will see what happens
I've had that toggled on all along, but with no effect selected for it. I've now selected blurring as the effect, and my portrait selfies still work properly, but I'll let you know if that changes.Wiping cache partition did not work but after some trial and error I think the new video call effects on the S21 series may be the culprit. Done. No immediate problem with portrait selfies. I'll let you know if any problem develops. Also if u can afterwards, try setting the effect to color instead of blur.

Still no problem here, so it's apparently unrelated to the video call effects settings.
Not necessarily. It shouldn't be possible for an app to interfere like that, unless there's both a rogue app running in the background, and also a system bug that lets the app somehow get in the way.I ran the phone in safe mode for 10 hours and I did not have the problem. therefore I could conclude that it is an application that is causing the portrait selfie camera not to work properly.

For several years now, some Note and S models have had a problem where some fundamental part of the system stops working for a minority of users. Sometimes it's camera functionality that breaks, sometimes keyboard response, sometimes fingerprint recognition, sometimes display auto-rotate, or some other low-level behavior.
The common thread is that the problem clears up for a while after a reboot, but returns within a few hours or days. It doesn't happen in Safe Mode, but no responsible apps have been identified, despite comparing different affected users' setups and despite affected users systematically removing and restoring apps to investigate.
The problem, for those who encounter it, is not solved by cache clearing, factory resetting, or even device replacement--it seems somehow tied to particular users' accounts. Possibly a driver-level bug is randomly corrupting some resource in a way that's randomly affected by some aspect of the user account.
I hope we're not seeing a return of this problem here. But if a few others are reporting the same thing as you, it's possible. The test will be whether a factory reset solves the problem for you.

No, I have no idea. But I'll be disappointed if it does return, unless it's fixed promptly by the next update. Anyway, please let us know. Good luck!
Glad to hear! I was probably too quick to raise the pessimistic possibility--just a lingering side-effect of the frustration I experienced with such issues a few years ago.Ok I will let you know. So far so good it has been about six hours so far since the reset.
