Portrait mode selfies not working.

Glad to hear! I was probably too quick to raise the pessimistic possibility--just a lingering side-effect of the frustration I experienced with such issues a few years ago. :)

I did factory reset. Going through all the painful process of setting up the phone again. The problem came back after couple of hours. Now I am not sure if should order another S21 or different phone!

Very disappointed!

Wow that really stinks. I did my factory reset yesterday morning and so far so good...no issues. Now after reading your post I am fearful it may resurface. Ugh.

I hate to say it but portrait mode selfies stopped working today...two days after my factory reset. I am not happy at all. I really think it has to do with the Samsung video call effects. I turned that off and rebooted. I am hoping that it solves the problem but I really have my doubts. If it stops working again then maybe Gary02468's theory is correct in which case I will have to ditch Samsung for good.

That does not sound good at all. I just did a factory reset this morning so I will see what happens. If it is indeed a driver level bug I am done wit Samsung for good and going back to Pixel. This should not be happening.

Portrait mode selfies broke down again today...two days after the factory reset. If this is a driver-level bug that is randomly corrupting some resource in a way that's randomly affected by some aspect of the user account as you suggest, would signing out of my Samsung account help do you think? Thanks.

Not necessarily. It shouldn't be possible for an app to interfere like that, unless there's both a rogue app running in the background, and also a system bug that lets the app somehow get in the way.

For several years now, some Note and S models have had a problem where some fundamental part of the system stops working for a minority of users. Sometimes it's camera functionality that breaks, sometimes keyboard response, sometimes fingerprint recognition, sometimes display auto-rotate, or some other low-level behavior.

The common thread is that the problem clears up for a while after a reboot, but returns within a few hours or days. It doesn't happen in Safe Mode, but no responsible apps have been identified, despite comparing different affected users' setups and despite affected users systematically removing and restoring apps to investigate.

The problem, for those who encounter it, is not solved by cache clearing, factory resetting, or even device replacement--it seems somehow tied to particular users' accounts. Possibly a driver-level bug is randomly corrupting some resource in a way that's randomly affected by some aspect of the user account.

I hope we're not seeing a return of this problem here. But if a few others are reporting the same thing as you, it's possible. The test will be whether a factory reset solves the problem for you.

Why would you think that as this does not seem like a widespread problem?
Got be a bug that some are experiencing, you mentioned there been reports in Samsung forums and another member here besides you , so to me if the traditional methods didn't fix it then it's a bug from latest update.

Yes I would think so however that post from Gary02468 suggests that it could be a problem related to some user accounts. But I hope you are right.

To me especially after a update I'm thinking it's a bug .

Okay hope you are right. In the meantime I turned off video call effects and I signed out of my Samsung account. So we'll see if any of those two actions helped. Thank you.

An hour and a half after my reboot with video call effects disabled my portrait mode selfies stopped working once again. Why is this happening with a brand new phone. If I knew that a software fix was coming that would be fine but I haven't heard a thing about it. $1,000 brand new phone right out of the box isn't working properly even after a factory reset. and Samsung will not exchange the phone unless I go to a repair shop first. There is no way I'm doing that Id rather just sell the phone take a loss and go back to pixel.
