BGR is reporting that they have some rather interesting news about the next Ice Cream Sandwich Nexus phone. Now remember that this is all just rumor at this point and that it should be "Taken with a Grain of Salt" as Phil would say. This is some interesting reading though because according to this the phone is going to be possibly named the "Nexus Prime" and that Google is working with multiple carriers and OEM's.

Google's first Ice Cream Sandwich phone to be manufactured by Samsung, possibly dubbed 'Nexus Prime'

After doing some more research it sounds like BGR didn't do their homework and their "Source" was an IRC troll site. So as of now this news is all bunk. Soo sorry for getting peoples hopes up. Hopefully BGR will start checking their sources, chalk this one up to BGR's great track record of mis-information.

I hope they change the name, but It should be a cool device.

Why are people worried about the OMAP romoured processor? Will it keep up??

I do hope that in the aesthetics it will look similar to the Galaxy SII. And I will be definitely be waiting for this phone to come out. Also think if this nexus comes out will define the next generation of Android devices much like the Nexus One.

I don't know of anyone that is worried about the OMAP4460. It is a hell of a SoC, from what I have seen it is faster than the new Snapdragons and Tegra2. Check out TI's website for info on the OMAP4430/4460 SoC's

OMAP? 4 Platform - OMAP4430/OMAP4460

I would be all over that, even if i have to leave Verizon.

No worries man, any info from BGR means that you have to take it with a great chunk of salt. Beside it sometime more fun to speculate.

First I still think it would be Samsung who will make the next Nexus, but not because the troll site says so.

Second I don't believe the dual core Qualcomm 8660 nor the OMAP 4460 will be the right chip for it. It should be the Exynos.

And it is because of the Exynos why Google needs to choose Samsung.

Why the Exynos?

If Google wants to work closely with ARM Ltd., the Exynos is the one to choose because it is the one SoC out there that has a truly bonafide ARM CPU mated to an ARM GPU. PowerVR SGX, Adreno, Geforce, these are not ARM's. The performance is a given, and yes, the MALI 400MP seems faster on everything right now except the PowerVR SGX 543MP. But performance is not the reason for choosing the MALI, its the fact that it is ARM's, it therefore makes a good reference point. If you optimize an OS to one GPU like Honeycomb did with 3.0 and 3.1 with the Tegra2's Geforce, it makes the other chip makers unhappy.

But of course, choosing MALI won't exactly make the others happy either but it is a license able technology like PowerVR SGX, the Adreno and the Geforce aren't. And once again, vs. the PowerSGX, the MALI is ARM's.even though PowerSGX is loosely like the mobile industry's defacto standard at this point due to the Apple, OMAP and Hummingbird SoC's.

I would kind of shuck the Qualcomm idea because the Scorpion core isn't a true Cortex A8 or A9 core.
