I think I found the issue of why oversea Mate 20 pro is not updating. I own LYA-L29 Mate 20 Pro, I haven't received any update since 5/19. I tried to contact China and USA Huawei support, they both told me they can't provide support because my phone does not belong to their region. Long story short, I contacted Hong Kong Huawei, and they told me to do 2 Things:

1. Make sure you have Hong Kong or China Sim Card.
2. Make sure you connect to wifi.

After trying all the possible ways to update my phone with USA sim card insert and they all fail( Even Huawei Firmware Finder). I decided to give a try on my wife's sim card from China Carrier. After I insert the sim and switch on the mobile network(My wife sim card did not activate for USA use), then I click "check for update". while it was "checking" I switch on Wifi, and the miracle happened. My phone are updating from EMUI 9 to 9.1. So I suspect the firmware update must have to sim.

1. Make sure you have an ASIA carrier sim. ( China and Hong Kong Sim work!)
2. After replacing the sim switch to mobile network only( it work without actual mobile connection). Then go to "SYSTEM" and click "check for update". while it is "checking" switch WIFI on at the sme time and the update will appear.

I hope this helps!!

Depends what Cust region code the device was originally from. Example , the sim card update trick works for using a UK sim card as my device is a c432 region , Western Europe. If my device was a region Cust code of c636 then yes, a Chinese or Asian sim would be required. However, the caveat is,for Emui 10 update also requires the IMEI to be white listed by Huawei to receive said update.
