What is your Display Usage at?

Click on the cell standby time and it will bring up another screen. IN that second screen it will show you Time without signal.

This is not working for me either. See picture below. That's all I get after pressing on Cell Standby. Also on my previous screen, I don't get as many usage readings as you do (see pic)

By changing the phone setting to CMDA permanently will that influence the ability to pick up on signals from non-Sprint towers. I'm getting ready to drive cross country and don't want to be stuck without a cell phone signal out in the middle of nowhere.

fyi - it appears to revert back to the default setting after a power down (long press power button, select power off).

Thanks. Reading the xda-developer post it said you have to reset it each time you reboot. Wonder if there is a way to do it without constantly re-booting?

The phone is cdma only. You can only roam off of other cdma carriers. This setting should have no effect on roaming.

If you set it on CDMA auto PRL, it means that it will roam to other CDMA towers, hence you wont be stuck without signal assuming that there is a Verizon tower near by. having it set on GSM auto PRL is useless, since Evo does NOT have a GSM radio inside.

With the usage readings it only reflects on how you use the phone, so if you're not using it as much as I was on the days I took those stills, then it will not have as much readings. Also based on your pic, it seems like you have not used the phone that much. I would say maybe you turned it on several times to check incoming messages etc. But it looks like on that day and at the time you took the screenshot, you did not listen to music or anything else. The screenshot looks like my battery usage stats when I leave my Evo alone for hrs at end.

I also noticed that TWS does not always appear but when it does appear, it is no where above 5% unless I'm getting no signal than it goes up higher (which is expected).

Also after tweaking my settings as I listed in the first post I'm getting solid battery life. 10-12hrs with heavy usage as listed in the first post.

With moderate personal usage (internet, music, text, phone) throughout the day I got 14.5hrs yesterday with still 30-40% in battery left after a night out. Look at the first picture that is attached. This was with several of my friends playing with the phone throughout the night playing with all the features and poking around. I am thoroughly impressed that the phone has become usable in terms of battery life.

ALSO THE BATTERY TECHNIQUE (charge til full, unplugg and turn off then plugging) seems to work after only one time. Since then i have rebooted and my display usage has stayed below 10% unless I start using it for 1-2hrs straight.

The second picture is from today 5.42 hrs with moderate usage and my battery is still at 90%. Also as you can see my display never goes above 5-7% now unless I'm using the Evo for a longer period of time then it goes up to 10-12%

I did the battery cycle tip, and cannot seem to get the display usage under 10%. I have lowered the brightness where it's only at about 1/4 of the bar. Right now my display usage shows 17%. Need some assistance

Yeah thats the usage i had when my battery life was crappy.

Its weird that it wont work after the battery cycle tip. I just want to make sure that you followed these steps:

1) charge phone (turned on) until light goes green. I would wait several minutes even after the phone goes green.

2) unlplugg the phone and turn it off. once it shuts down, plug it back in (charging light should go red)

3) once the charge is complete (light is green) then with it still plugged in, turn the Evo back on. Once it is completely booted, unplugg it and either use it or let it rest for a couple of minutes.

4) after a while the display usage should continue to drop and be around 3-9%.

If you did those steps and its still at a high display usage, i would recommend leaving the phone to sit (with screen off) for couple of minutes and then look at the battery info. It should start going down.

I noticed that now when I take it off the plug after a full charge (and I no longer follow the battery calibration technique) display usage is high around 13-15% but after a while when I check back it starts dropping.

Finally got it under 10%.. Now will this stay there? Or will it go back up?

Display usage has nothing to do with battery cycling or how you charge it. It represents how much of battery capacity was used by the display. The more you have the phone on, the higher this number is likely to be.

The XDA GSM PRL vs. CDMA PRL is interesting. I didn't even have a TWS entry displayed on the Cell Standby screen, until AFTER I did the XDA fix. But my phone was set to GSM PRL, so I reset it to CDMA. Now I have the TWS, and the value is zero. I haven't had this phone long enough to really have a feel for normal battery life (I've been playing with it lots!), but this can't hurt.

Yeah technically the display usage is meant to represent how much your phone is on and the display is using the battery for your viewing pleasure.

But being that high in the 15-20% range is abnormal even for a phone like the Evo with a big and bright screen. At least in my opinion it is abnormal because with the battery "calibration" (or whatever you want to call it) display usage when the screen is turned on intermittent it is between 3-5%. When you start using it (like over 30min straight) it goes up to 5-9%

but for those that are stuck at 15-20% display usage when the screen is turned on intermittent or using it frequently, the battery drain seems to be horrendous.

At least from personal experience after doing the calibration thing, no matter how long I use the phone and the screen is turned on, display usage never goes above 9%. Only when it comes off the charger does it start at around 12-14% and decrease eventually.

Take my observations with a grain of salt, since its a hunch, but at least now I am getting anywhere from 10-15hrs depending on usage.

For me it has stayed at below 10% since cycling the battery per the first post, even with a hard reset. When you take it off the charger it will be around 12-14% but it will start to decrease as time passes and stay below 10% as you use the phone.

Report back and let me know if it is the same for you as well.

I have done all the tweaks you have said. My display usage is awesome, and staying around 5-9% most of the time. My cell standby and phone idle is over 25% each, but my TWS is 0% almost all the time. Even with all that, and turning just about everything off. I got only about 6hrs light use of battery. I even checked my battery info, and it said battery health was good. So what gives?

Also another thing I noticed was before all of this, both Cell standby and phone idle were very low %. Your own pics even show that, but then after all these tweaks this went considerably up. Reason?

I usually notice that cell standby n phone idle r high when I'm not using the Evo. But when I use the phone, it drops considerably.

What r ur phone settings & r u using any task managers?

Also wut was your battery life before tweaking?

Cell standby and phone idle are going to be high if you don't use your phone much. For example, this morning I checked and they were 48% and 46% respectively (with Android Systems at 4% and Voice Calls at 2%). 48%+46%+4%+2%=100% It is expected to be that high because those are the main two things using the battery when the phone is not being used. If you are using the phone for a bunch of other things, you will see the CS and PI % go down while other % go up. But when you add them up it will be 100%.

I'm not using any task managers. I did however use a task manager when I first got the phone and it did absolutely nothing for battery life for me. My battery life when first purchasing the phone was even worse only because of everything that was turned on. Settings...
