Possible to view an email attachment without having to download it first?

You have to download it. Downloads folder exists as an icon. Where that icon is depends on your ROM or carrier layout for apps.

This app center you all your attachments and provides a great search engine for your attachment
Including filtering by type and search result ordering by: date, type, size, name

I test it only on Exchange Outlook on my phone and even if I only preview attachments , I can see them in Inbox app.

I think if you use the Gmail app, you can preview them without downloading it.....
