I'm not trying to sound like a jackass weasel, so please don't take it this way bud.

But I'm just glad we're getting at least SOME acknowledgment from Moto. My bets are that the delays are coming from Verizon, and NOT Motorola. Verizon has a habit of this, and sometimes it makes the manufacturer look bad.

Or VZW pushes a company to release something early and also makes the manufacturer look bad in the process, like the first storm.

Anyone heard when 2.2 is rolling out?... jk
Seriously, this phone rocks as it is. Sure the added benefits of 2.1 would be nice, but I really appreciate the time they are taking to ensure this is as rock solid as possible. I considered rooting my Droid, but after reading so much about it, and trying many homescreen replacements, I still go back to stock. The stock android experience hands down beats the blackberry I came from. Cheers!

As we all patiently (?) wait for 2.1, I have a basic question - should I uninstall the 2.1 gallery, music, clock and news-weather apps before I download the update? I am not rooted, but I do not want to remove those after the update and have the uninstall break the new, native apps. On a related note, can I refuse the update download request, uninstall the apps and then retrieve the update via settings or do I have to wait until it is pushed to me again?

When you get the update and your phone starts the download to be safe delete those apps the update should add them back

I may be jumping the gun, but I have deleted all of my 2.1 apk's except news and weather, just to 1) be safe, and 2) not confuse me which is the correct one when I start uninstalling stuff.

Because I do not no how to root manually sholes made it so easy! I would like to learn how to root manually but I'm still new at this. Anyways I was looking around the internet today trying to find some kind of 2.1 announcement and I read somewhere that the reason the update is taking so long is because it's going to include Flash...did anyone else read that? You would think Adobe has to be close to ready I watched the Adobe video with Flash on the Droid back in January

Nah, it won't. Adobe just now said that the Droid is going to get it in the first HALF of the year, not Q1. So we are for sure gonna get 2.1 before Flash hits.

Now, we WILL get AIR before flash, thats for sure.

99% of the rumors come from speculation in this and other forums. Flash is going to come by the first half of the year so don't even start hoping it's a long way off.

Motorola promises CLIQ upgrade this week; DROID 2.1 upgrade for end of month with Flash?

Web site droid Life was told the reason for the Android 2.1 upgrade delay for the DROID. A contract worker who does work for Big Red asked a Verizon manager what happened to the update. He was informed that Verizon now plans on rolling out Android 2.1 at the end of this month with Flash included! If true, Verizon and Motorola would be killing two birds with one stone bringing pinch-to-zoom to the browser along with Flash capabilities. DROID owners might call it the happiest day of their life.
In the Deja vu department, Motorola sent out a tweet promising that CLIQ owners would be receiving an upgrade this week. Raise your hand if you’ve heard this story before. Before you get too excited, no, this is not the 2.1 upgrade. It merely takes care of some light housekeeping like extending battery life and fixing bugs with the GPS and the touchscreen. Again, we will believe it when we see it. Motorola’s track record in this area is not exactly golden.

I am going to have to put that under the "probably not true" section. As I said earlier. Flash: First half of 2010. 2.1: First Quarter of 2010.
There are dates that overlap obviously, but when someone gives themselves 6 months of wiggle room, do you think they're going to do it first thing, or wait until the last minute?

It sounds like you think Adobe is a college student waiting for the last minute to do their 5 page essay. Development and/or porting a program to a mobile device is a long process and to assume Adobe is going to act like a college student is silly. If anything Adobe is and has and will be working on developing/porting Flash to mobile devices up until release date. :)

God I wish flash came. But i'm not going to get excited about it. I already have enough trouble waiting for 2.1.

Not to feed a fire that doesn't need creation;

Adobe actually has been cited several several times for being "lazy" and such. They still haven't added anything new to the mix as far as flash goes! Still based on the same old architecture. There where even huge security risks they over-looked until enough people complained. PLUS they originally said Q1 now its the first half?

I like Adobe and their products. But how often has a company given a 6 month window, and did it the very first month of those 6 months?

All I was pointing out is that we wont get flash with the 2.1 update, for this I am very certain. But if we do, then shoot, my speculation will be incorrect like so many other peoples here have been before.

I think we are quickly approaching the point where we are going to see "soon" in our rear view mirrors.

Oh well.

Yup, I am now desiring the HTC Desire.
Funny First the Droid got replaced by the N1 and now the Desire looks like it will be the next king for a week.:D

Eh, nothings really replaced the droid.

Maybe if the N1 didn't have all the 3G issues, was on a real network, had a keyboard, and wasn't made of plastic, tossed out the track ball, ditched the AMOLED, and the soft keys below the screen worked, I'd roll with it.

Don't jump ship! lol

LOL.
Glad we can look past the missing update.

We all knew deep down it wasn't going to happen this week.

And now it will be a surprise!

Thats a million times better than knowing.

Right?

..........RIGHT!?
