hey how much is first hand, exclusive eris update info worth to you? Or maybe a zip of the install file for an approved os leaked early?

I don't have anything, just a theoretical question to spawn discussion while we wait?

They did say the update is coming out within the first quarter. So it should be coming relatively soon.

You didn't read the whole thread, did you? I told everyone it failed testing. So that timeline you're referring to goes out the window. It'll take em about 6 weeks (if they got the build Monday) to test and release. So I doubt it'll get out by end of March. But who knows, they might rush it through or only test the stuff that was changed since the last build they had.

Generally and I do mean "Generally" if patches is chiming in then it failed at the friendly user stage. IE. not lab but rather real world testing. You can speculate as to what but the details don't matter. The fact is that if it didn't make it past that then there's absolutely no chance that Verizon will release it and the timeline he provides has always been accurate.

Kinda sucks. Specially on the Eris. Least the droid you can root and move about to whatever you like.

I got an Eris 2 or 3 weeks ago for the g/f assuming the update would really be hitting any day. I'm really debating sending it back before the 30 days and waiting till the N1 hits. The Eris is nice but the N1 is nicer.

Idk what failed honestly, but had to be big for them to fail it. I've seen what I thought were glaring issues on builds that passed for other phones, so who knows. Throw crap at a wall and see what sticks.

Tc told me off the record

Hello All,

Spoke to a friend of mine at htc last night and pressured for some information. He said htc and verizon both are working on the release together. The software itself did not fail testing. Patches is correct that it failed just was not the software. Seems to be verizon is having technical difficulties uploading it to the server that transmits the ota updates. When they uploaded 2.1 to the server the server only recieved bits and pieces of the new software hence the reason it bricked a few phone and some phones worked flawlessly. The testing at htc and also on verizon droid eris that were updated via computer to the phone was flawless in testing and passed the trouble is not software but again they are experiencing trouble uploading the software to the server for ota. My friend at HTC has assured me that the software should be released within next 14 days.

That makes perfect sense to me. I seem to recall a while back there was talk of the update being too large for ota and that you might have to bring your phone in to a store to update. I would be fine with updating thru the computer or my local store. Maybe if verizon could send a message telling us to go to such and such website to update for 2.1

I hope i am right to but my buddy has been a reliable source for me so hopefully what he says is correct. I guess they r trying to get it to work ota because they dont want the stores getting overwhelmed but they may have to do it another way if they cannot get it right on there servers end. we def need the update.
