I had a blackberry storm 2 and it always seemed there were updates to the OS, just not supplied or supported by vzw...that is why I was asking.

Most updates are failed by lab or network testing. Very rarely do builds even get to friendly user testing where they're used real world. And if they make it that far, usually only serious service impacting or glaring bugs cause it to fail. Generally its a scenario where X, Y, Z is broken, but features A, B, C are added or improved. Then they weigh the benefits against the flaws.

Patches could you say days, weeks, or another month. Forgive me if I put you on the spot. And I understand if you just can't say.

Forgive me android nation if I have been guilty of "bitching" too much. For the record I am happy with my eris, but I would not turn down another, better phone. I don't think many of us would. I, like many others, assumed that the 2.0 update would come sooner rather than later. I am currently anxiously awaiting a OTA update to make my phone better all around.

Hey aqua you will be happier for waiting then getting a half baked version of the OS. Even. If the N1 came out before the HTC Eris upgrade and you brought it, then the next day Eris OS updates you still have a better phone with the N1. However, if you are patient and wait to get the OS update for the Eris you extend your life with the Eris and can wait for even a better phone to come out.

There's no actual date, it sort of depends...IF they started testing the next build today, it could be 3, 4, 6 weeks. It depends on what VZW says the testing due date is. So until next round of testing starts, nobody knows. NOBODY. Especially tech support reps, store employees, your buddy's friend who works for VZW. Not even the CEO can answer that question until its under way.

And if they say "two weeks" that's translated to "i don't know, go away". LOL!

Thanks for the info. patches. ChuckG73- that is exactly my thinking. You and I both know there is always going to be something better down the line. Good advice that I will follow. What would you do if the Nexus comes out tom and the eris still hasn't been updated. Would you wait for the eris to be updated or pull the trigger on the Nexus? I'm just curious.
For the record, there is nothing wrong with my eris and I am content to keep it. I would, however, like to have navigation and the new cool features of 2.1. Who wouldn't.
Still patiently waiting for options to come. I always like to have a plan B.

Yes the eris is the best phone i ever had the n1 is great but i just got this thing so i want the update the only problem i have is battery life but thats under standable due to battery size and and processor wattage the other problem is a little lag and no navigation

And then somebody post as soon as they recieve the OTA update then we will all know that its on it's way... so when we see that somebody posted a message in here we don't need to check... just to find out its a pointless comment... we will know that the OTA is on the way!!

Hey Aqua, I will actually buy the N1 on day one regardless of when the OS comes out for the Eris. This is a great phone but I have been looking forward to the N1 since it wad announced.

Chuck, there are at least 3 android phones coming to VZW including the N1. I'd advise to wait and see what else is being released before making up your mind.

thanks patches, that is good advice for me as well. I just hope the eris update can hold me off. I was hoping to play with sense 2.1 before making up my mind about the N1.
