Post All Eris 2.1 Update Rumors, News, and Updates HERE

Question for you guys:

I'm currently a BB user, and hate it. I want to go switch to an Eris today to play around with it for a while and get used to it before the Incredible hopefully launches in the next few weeks. When it releases I'm planning on taking the Eris back and swapping it for the Incredible since I'll still be in the 30 day trial window. Now my question: If I root my Eris and put 2.1 on it, it voids the warranty right? Is there a way to revert everything back to factory default when I'm done with the Eris and ready to return it?

Thanks!
Phil

i installed a leak of 2.1 which voided my warranty and still returned it 20 days into having it for a motorola droid. they did not seem to care one bit. as long as it's within the 30 days they don't ask questions at all ( in my prior experiences ). I think you will be ok and can do it no problem. i got tired of waiting for the 2.1 update OTA so I just got the Moto Droid. I miss my Eris tho I am not going to lie. I'm going to go onto craigslist and buy a used one I think just to have a spare phone to switch from the moto to the htc

I just got off the phone with Verizon Wireless Tech Support & he told me that the 2.1 update will happen for Eris owners. He said that they are going to start the rolling updates very soon and by the end of April all Eris owners WILL have 2.1 :D.

I know you may think that this is another roomer but if you don't belie me just call Verizon Tech Support @ 1-800-922-0204 and ask them your self.

All I can say is I'm really happy its finally happening,

believe it when i see it. plus they wouldnt release the new HTC Incredible at the same time therefore saying to customers you can buy the cheaper Eris with 2.1 or you can buy the HTC Incredible more expensive but has the same 2.1

Exactly my thoughts, an now that I see they are discontinueing sales, I believe it'll happen when the cheaply priced Eris cant out sell something comperable, so some time in May

I think the Incredible will generate sales regardless of 2.1 on the Eris. Just the features and specs alone I think would be the deal breaker. Live wallpaper, Snapdragon CPU, Google Earth, 8MB camera with dual LED flash, more RAM/ROM, bigger screen. It has better hardware and there are things that the Eris won't be able to do even on 2.1 from my understanding because of the less powerful processor.

i agree with this. also the average consumer really has no idea about the various versions of android and the real differences b/t them, and it's not like verizon is going to launch some marketing campaign telling people that the eris has 2.1 now.

the incredible is essentially a faster, newer eris and i think for most people who are deciding b/t the two in store it will come down to the price and looks.

The Incredible is in the league with the Nexus One, the Eris is the cheapest/most affordable Android phone you can get. Verizon wants more money so they dont need the Eris anymore they can squeeze more money out of the Incredible. Nobody but the Nerds, Techy (like many of us) knows the difference between and Eris, a Blackberry or a razr lol. A phone is a phone is a phone to most consumers. The nerds are the ones b!tching about 1.5 or 2.1.

It will come...

If we get the update by the end of the month I will crap my pants.

you might want to get some diapers.

i'm just saying ;)

my money is on the end of the month (around the rumored incredible release) or around the end of life date for the eris...

That's exactly what they did with the bb storm 1&2. They updated the storm almost exactly when the storm 2 came out....and a couple months later I bought the Eris

Right all of those things are true, but you bought the Eris over the Moto Droid because of why? price/bogo/whatever reason idk make up a reason but ya chose an eris an that hurt the droids sales, which is some thing they aren't gonna let happen to the existing droid on 2.1 or the Incredible or the Aloha

i actually had both devices, but in the long run, verizon cares more about people signing a contract (esp for a smart phone of any kind) over which specific phone they buy.

the more options they provide, the more people of varying budgets/incomes they can get to sign.

i can almost guarantee you though, that you won't find a cs rep telling people about the eris having 2.1 when people are looking at the two phones because the average consumer doesn't know/care what version of an OS the phone they're looking at has.

most likely the customer who is looking at the eris after the incredible comes out is one who is limited by their budget, as i would imagine if someone was willing to spend $200 on an android handset would most likely be looking at the droid and the incredible instead. so for that consumer, verizon would much rather have them buy the eris and sign, vs them not getting anything at all because they can't afford it (that, or getting a cheaper feature or dumbphone that doesn't have the associated data plan on it)

also, depending on the amt of stock a store has, it wouldn't surprise me for them to pull it off the shelves (the eris) completely to promote sales on newer devices that aren't so close to their end of life date.
