New Response From [ Alvin (North America Support (Tech)) ]
Hello Dana,

Thank you for taking the time to contact HTC America Technical Support via E-Mail with your inquiry about when the Verizon Wireless DROID ERIS by HTC will receive an update to Android 2.1 (?clair). My name is A.J. and I will be happy to assist you today.

I understand how important it is for you to have all of the available information about upcoming software updates for your device. Verizon Wireless has confirmed that the Verizon Wireless DROID ERIS by HTC will receive the Android 2.1 (?clair) update. The Update will be available within the first six months of this year, very possibly within the next few weeks. The release date is dependant upon carrier testing and certification. The Update will be pushed OTA (Over The Air) by Verizon Wireless, OTA updates can take time to be pushed to each individual device so even once the update is released it may be a few days before you see a notification on your device.

Dana, if you have any future questions about your device please feel free to visit HTC - Mobile Phones, Smartphones, Cell Phones, PDAs and send us another e-mail. You may also enjoy community.htc.com, our customer-based community, which has a myriad of information on HTC devices. where in the sd card should file be? right now its in my download sd folder. should I move to phone root folder?

i put it in my root folder, i would assume that's where it should go as all the update.zip updates for the droid were supposed to be in root.

Yep,def better all around but not earth shattering. Yes less or almost no lag, browser is better but not way better than before. Been playing with OS for a few hours now and am pleased. There is one widget I thought word make it on this build and I saw youtube video on it,and that was Friend Stream. It's a widget that combines Twitter Facebook and MySpace. Not sure why that didn't make it in. Also the pinch zoom on home screen. Overall like its been said, improvements all around....

I've heard many people say it's supposed to come within the next few weeks. Which means it's possible for it to come on the 7th. Is there anymore proof to where we can really pin a date?

The software is a little laggy on my phone.. Is anybody experiencing this issue or did I install the software wrong?

my 2.1 install works fast and good. no lagg. I've even installed all my old apps. try rebooting.

So if there is a difference between this leak and the update we're waiting for can you still get the ota update?

Phandroid is claiming that if you try this leak, you are stuck with it. Meaning you can't downgrade. I just hope we can still upgrade, get the official 2.1.

Holy crap... this is amazingly fast.

2.1 makes this finally on par with my old iPhone.

NICE.

So if there is a difference between this leak and the update we're waiting for can you still get the ota update?

this leak is most likely (and by most likely, i mean almost certainly) not going to be the same as the official update.

i don't see why we wouldn't be able to get the update when it comes out, if not OTA, we should be able to install it in the same manner this was installed.

Only issue I have discovered is that Google Earth does not work...anyone else?

Okay a couple of things about the upgrade. GolfCard is no longer in the android market, I paid for it so I thought I would be able to re install it. Also Google Earth does not work, doesn't open at all. I click it and it takes me back to my home screen. Any time I shut my phone off, I have to re log into gmail when it boots back up. Is there a way to store my password that I am missing so I do not need to do that.

On the other hand, google voice is awesome. Navigator is pretty sweet to. Now that I am running 2.1 are there any other apps that I should download. I am sure there is a thread about that already so I am going to do some searching now.

yeah forgot to mention - without the associated plan. Can they really monitor your phone and see if you are tethering or not? Wouldn't it just look like you had more 3G usage?

Oh they can very easily monitor your usage! In-fact if you look at the teeny tiny itty bitty print it says (and I paraphrase);

Limited to 5Gb.

Now with just your smart phone, going near that amount is a pretty amazing task! And 99% of the people out there never will.

It states that if you do go over that cap (they wont charge you), that you'll be place on monitoring. If it happens again, they can charge you extra, or even cancel your account with no warning (other than the warning issued in your contract).

So, technically, they can even try to pursue criminal charges for unauthorized usage of the network (yes, thats in your contract as well). But they wont, they just charge ya.

So stick under 5Gb, and you should be dandy. But be warned; a computer can burn through that kinda bandwidth in a week if you're doing it right.

Google Earth not working for me either. Also having trouble getting contacts to link with Facebook. Says it doesn't recognize anyone. Some other small annoyances like it doesn't keep All Programs in List format. It reverts back to grid after reboot. Like others, I have to enter my gmail password again.
