Post All Eris 2.1 Update Rumors, News, and Updates HERE

Not gonna lie... not really excited about 2.0 on the Eris. I dont think it has the power to run it. Mine is sluggish running 1.5 and I only use a hand full of apps. I dont think the battery could handle it either. The Eris just doesnt have the power for it. Also I think HTC is more focused on the next device which comes with 2.0 preinstalled. And word on the street is that its coming in Dec.

This almost defies logic, seeing as the front page of Android Central confirms that 2.0 has been ported to the G1 and all reports have said that it is much faster. Not sure how it would run slower on a faster phone. If you think that your Eris is running slowly, you might want to try disabling some of your widgets. Remember, the Eris runs the Sense UI, which Android 2.0 does not.

My wife bought an Eris yesterday and is in love with it. It appears to run quickly, although I think there's a bit of lag when going from portrait/landscape. I'm wondering how much overhead Sense imposes on the OS.

i wonder if the 2.0 upgrade will fix the lag from portatrit to landscape?
Who knows, maybe the dec.11 ota update will fix this issue.
that would be awesome.

eris and the droid have just about the same processor, speeds should be the same on both. have heard that sense ui does slow it down a little bit.

Actually they are 528 vs 550 mhz but they are different processor cores. Kind of like going from a Pentium 4 to a Core 2. The Droid also supports OpenGL and has PowerVR GPU acceleration. I own both the Droid and the Droid Eris they are both nice devices and I sure do wish they had put some of the refinements into the Droid as HTC has done on the Eris. Showing off the two devices the Eris gets more attention.

Eris Battery

Is the 2.0 update definite?

How poor is this battery - and can an update fix battery life?

I love my Eris. My only concern is the battery life. I keep mine tethered to power when its just sitting at home, just to keep the battery up. I kill all apps that I don't need, turn off my data network (use wifi at home), everything I can to minimize battery use. Hopefully an update will help with this.

I can't put the eris down. This phone is awesome. The screen is beautiful. I love the touchscreen coming from an iPhone. I look forward to getting the 2.0 update.

Hello,

My name is Cameron Church, I am a representative from Verizon in the Wireless division.

I wanted to clear up some rumors as well as inform you about the Android OS product lines that Verizon supports like the MOTOROLA DROID, and the HTC ERIS. Now I hear a lot of " No the ERIS cannot run 2.0", or " it will never get it". I cannot speak for other providers and thier supporting models. But can confirm that HTC ERIS will be updated with the 2.0 Android operating system. The reason it was not released with it before was due to the phones time of release which was before Motorola DROID. The HTC ERIS will in time be getting a updated version that is specified for the ERIS and other smart phones that are not up to specifications that the DROID supplied for ANDROID 2.0.

ANDROID 2.0 was not designed for ERIS please remember that, but will be updated to that release, its only a matter of time so keep looking for updates from Verizon, as well as your accredited websites such as the official Android Website.

I hope this helps bring clarity to the rumors as well as the suspicions you may have with your products and your equipment.

If you are truly a verizon person and you are telling the truth, THANKS! :)

Crop relations? That's a good thing, with all this fertilizer you just threw out.

The thing that sucks about Android and Verizon is that I know more about the phones than most of the reps in the stores or in the customer service. One of the reps I talked to pitched to me that one of the reasons Verizon didn't jump on the iPhone initially is because they wanted to do all the customer support for the phone. Not a good thing (IMO) as these reps are supposed to know about 20+ odd phones Verizon currently carries, plus all the old phones. Android phones have a lot of quirks to get them working properly, the Verizon reps I've talked with have not been well versed in the OS. One insisted that the Eris had a pull-out keyboard, another one told me that battery life is better on the Eris than the Droid. Right. Anyway, it's tough to believe what Verizon has to say about anything related to Android. The best source for udpates on this is Boy Genius Report or Phandroid.

Where have you heard it will be 2.0?

I really hope this update is going to be as good as everyone thinks it will be ... but I also think everyone is getting their hopes up a bit. I'm just going on my experience with my storm, which anyone who had gotten one opening month will remember the wait for the "fix-all" update that was to be released a month or so after launch, and in reality that update didn't fix much at all, and most of the problems were not fixed until the recent release of 5.0. Now I'm not comparing the Eris to the Storm, and out of the box the Eris is much better than the storm was. I'm just saying not to get your hopes up as more than likely this dec. 11 update will only be small firmware updated and will be followed by one or two more until we finally get 2.0. Who knows though, hopefully I'm wrong and this "magical update" will make the eris everything it was meant to be, I'm just trying to be realistic though.

There will be no HTC Sense for 2.0

It's going to be 2.1 :) The alpha has already been leaked, some Dream/ADP1 devs have it and are in the process of porting it. I agreed not say much about it....but a Twitter search of the popular Dream dev's accounts will tell you all you need to know, as some folks don't mind talking about it :)

In any case, don't count on seeing it in any dec 11 update...it's not even close to being ready for prime time. Besides...what exactly do people think they will get with 2.0? Besides Google Nav, everything in 2.0 has already been put into Sense (or an even better equivalent) by HTC. I'm running it on my apd, and honestly...it's hardly worth the size increase if you have a Sense or Moto rom on 1.5 or 1.6 . It's much more important to kill any existing bugs before a new crop of shiny 2.0 bugs get introduced.
