Post Droid Eris 2.1 Findings HERE

i need to make a second report. I said originally that the phone was slow after the update. I did a 2nd hard reset and since then it is really fast, everything. I am not having the handcent problems. I don't know why. Like I said before, I just hope we can still get the official OTA because this phone will be awesome then.

I am by no means a technical expert. I did the update last night and was up for hours playing with my phone, the way I did when I first got it.

It is fast, it is fun, it feels new.

I haven't gotten or sent any texts yet, so don't know about handcent issue.

The only bad part right now is redownloading all my apps. I can't remember all that I had, which means I probably didnt need most of them.

Loving the new V2 update. After a 24hr test drive, everything seems fine. Battery life is appx the same. Kinda hard for me to judge because I've been tinkering with it since the update. Boss didn't care much for that either. :)

I have only a few small dislikes aside from some very minor app compability issues. Certain apps autorun and I can't for the life of me terminate them even by running a task manager. Amazon MP3 Store, settings, and My Uploads. Not that it's that big of a bother, but regardless of the device or system I'm using, I despise unwatned processes hanging out in the background.

Two questions for all the early adopters:
1) does the gmail app support multiple accounts (i does on other 2.X devices, right)?
2) does the calendar have week view?

Seems faster but MyBackup doesn't work

I had purchased MyBackup and now when I launch I get an error that the trial has expired. The paid version can't be found in the market. Even though, with a fresh install it seems faster. A couple of observations:
1- Chomp SMS isn't in the market
2 - Handicent sends only one message but I get an error that the message can't be sent.
3 - Google Earth doesn't launch

Seems pretty stable other than that. Thanks to everyone for the insights and making this available.

yes and yes

for people who's paid apps aren't showing up in the market, let the dev know, they just have to update it to say that it's compatible with the build we're using

have you tried going to manage applications and using the task manager that's built in?

also, the way 2.x handles/manages apps is different and more efficient than 1.x when i had my droid, i didn't use a task manager and the OS did a perfectly fine job of managing them for me.

it's supposed to try and figure out what you use more and keep them ready, but in the early days of use, it's still learning. my advice is to leave it be and you should notice it doing a better job over time.

Sure have. No uninstall option in the integrated task manager for the running processes in question. Have also tried to use an autokill feature in the current task manager app I'm using and it just keeps relaunching.

I have a problem I haven't seen addressed anywhere here yet.

After upgrading to 2.1, everything seemed to work fine. But then I got a call last night and answered it, but couldn't hear anything. And apparently, the person on the other end couldn't hear me. (This was shortly after receiving a call that I had no problems hearing, and I don't believe I played with the settings at all.) Tried again two more times and same thing. We were connected, but no one could hear anything.

I restarted my phone, and it began working fine. But this morning it happened again. (I also couldn't hear a message I was trying to play back in Google Voice.) I restared and again that fixed it, but obviously I don't want it to keep sliding into silence. Does anyone else have this problem? Any ideas how to fix it? I'd like to keep 2.1 if possible, but if this keeps happening I'll just downgrade to 1.5. (Sigh)

Just 2 notes

-The silence when you pick up the phone feature can get annoying, it will silence in your pocket etc.
this can be fixed, Settings > Sound & Display > uncheck "Quiet Ring on Pickup"

-when listening to musc, can't pickup phone calls
this works fine on mine, must be random bug on some phones?

Bug:

Randomly dual touch (pinch) feature will stop working. it has happened to me twice, and one other user that I know of. Not sure why... reboot fixes it though.

once it stops working, it doesn't work on any of the home screens, browser, or picture views.

Has anyone else noticed that you can't send some contacts to voicemail anymore in 2.1??? I loved this for certain people. heh

Can you elaborate on the Exchange support for me? Are the folders now sorted? Also, on 1.5 when I deleted a message from my inbox it would move it to the Deleted Items folder as unread. Does it still do that? How about tasks, can you now sync up your tasks?

Thanks,
Jeff

-Calendar syncs with exchange(shows your agenda view)
-deleted shows as read, if it is read
-Out of office setting available (pulls data from server), but I haven't gotten it to actually work so its buggy.

anyone having trouble with handcent u can go to chompsms website and get the apk file since its not showing up in the market im using it with no issues

So, I've had my Eris since Monday and have been luvin' it except for one Bluetooth problem where it would disconnect from my in-car Bluetooth. Finally gave in to the itch last night and installed 2.1. Smooth upgrade, no problems and with the new updated Bluetooth stack in 2.1 it seems to be working fine on my in-car setup.

One thing I have noticed is that I used to be able to access my phone list "Favorites" direclty off of the dialing screen but now it appears that it takes a couple of extra steps. Anyone know how I can create a shortcut to add my phone contact favorites directly on the home screen?

PS: As a noob on this phone I just want to say a huge thanks to the entire community in here. I've learned much (much more still to learn) and I appreciate all of the help and basic good vibe in this forum.
