Post here when you get the OTA

For those that have installed it, does it wipe data (causing you to re-setup the home screens)?

I dont use sense, but I switched back to see what changed. It didnt change anything related to widget, icon or buttons, but it did revert the skin back to the default.

just tried to update. checked for update. said it was there. accepted the "terms", got the "error - download failed" popup.

Any suggestions. tried the restart, remove battery, etc. I'm in CT at the moment.

Not sure if someone answered this already, but will you be able to root after you get the ota update?

Got it in NY. Very smooth installation. Had to reset my scenes and re log into amazon (and for second I thought all wallpapers had been erased but they came back) but otherwise everything seems fine.

I had the same actually. I'm in EST in VA. tried the restart, battery etc.. also. still get the download Error - Download Failed. I would imagine the servers are bombarded and that is probably why we are getting this error.

Forced a manual install here in SF, smooth install, subtle improvements:
  • Quick Settings Tab on pull-down is nice, though I am using EasyProfiles so less essential
  • More/better information about Running Apps is helpful
  • Default HTC skin is now moving wallpaper
  • I like the new Metal Skin - it has a subtle sliding bar on the arc on the bottom that tells you which screen you are on (so does the HTC one) - I don't recall seeing this on the Froyo version but maybe I just missed it
  • Had to reset my screen lock timeout so I don't need to do a pattern every time
UPDATE - All of my SMSs were wiped clean and the SMS app isn't working. I get an error "The process com.android.mms has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." On the phone with VZ tech support right now...

UPDATE2 - fixed, but I lost all of my SMSs. Interestingly, the phone was unable to boot in Safe Mode until I shut down and took the battery out. The hard reboot seemed to fix the issue.

Got the update on my dads about an hour ago. Smooth installation seems very snappy

I was able to do it in the morning when I got to work. It does seem to be a little quicker between windows. Really the only difference I have seen so far besides the quick settings

Did not get notice but the update did show up when I looked.
Update went well. Have not had time to really dig in but everything appears to be fine.
Maybe it's just optomism but everything does seem a little snappier.

I just happened to see the story this morning so told my phone to check for the update and lo, there it was. I'm in north Florida. It went smoothly and honestly there isn't a whole lot to it to the naked eye. I remember reading a while back that Gingerbread was really more of a set of behind the scenes tweaks than a bunch of visible ones. The handful I've noticed are small and minorly helpful. I don't like the you-have-new-Gmail icon in the status bar. It's a little less noticeable.

I've noticed that mine has given me the new email sound and status bar indicator and when I opened up the email, nothing new was there. Reeeally hope that's not how it will be from now on.

I read that you're supposed to be able to select and copy a word via longpress and then double tap, but that only seems to work for me in Gmail. Maybe that's the only place it's supposed to work. I remember people griping when the Nexus S came out that there were four different ways to select and copy text depending on what part of the system you were in. Can't recall how things may have been different under Froyo.

The Quick Settings tab on the pulldown menu is nice. It lets me get rid of a couple buttons elsewhere to free up space.

Weird thing is, I previously had the Gingerbread Keyboard that somebody put in the Market back when I had Froyo. But now that I have Gingerbread, the keyboard doesn't look like the one I had previously downloaded. I've been using Smart Keyboard and Better Keyboard but switched back to stock for a bit just to check and it looks much like I remember the Froyo original one looking.

EDIT: Also, sometimes I get the new email sound but there's no email icon in the status bar. If I pull it down, I'll see the new email notice, but if I happened to be away from the phone when the tiny sound happened and came back, I wouldn't see an icon in the bar. The LED blinks, and that lets me know, but that can blink for different reasons, so it just means I'll have to pull down my status bar more.

Got ours(wife and I) around noon east coast time. Other than icons looking a little different, quick settings tap in notification bar, haven't noticed much of a difference.

Sucks it didn't let you update over wifi though. Must do it over phone network. I thought with OTA, it could be done via wifi OR cell network. Oh well. Got the update nonetheless. I'm temp rooted too so most of the Verizon garbage is still missing and didn't give me any problems updating it. I'm happy and so is my wife.

I did a manual software update check and installed it OTA in about 15 mins without issue today around 5:30pm EST.

Mine updated over wifi took 10 mins to download. Thats odd it wouldn't download for you over wifi
